  • D5000 (easy to drive, sounds better than HD650 in Pop and Rock, good vocals and bass response)
  • 650 (close to D5000 but it requires a better amplification and the vocal is not as good as D5000)
  • 600 (excellent performance in classical music especially orchestra)
  • SA5000 (super fast response , you can feel it is a "next-generation technology" headphone)
  • RS1 (best for Rock and Pop but the bass is not deep enough IMO)
  • MPRO (sounds more balanced than RS1 but performs badly in large scale classical music)
  • AD2000 (the vocals is too closed and too warmth, not a bad headphone but it is too tight for my big head)
  • 240M (excellent mid ONLY, relaxed listening )
  • DT990 2005 version ( good soundstaging but the mid is too far away)
  • SR80
  • SR60
  • 240S
  • 240DF
  • DT880 old
  • 595
  • 590
  • K1000 ( well, i couldnt drive it well...)
  • M2
  • M2i
  • SR325i
  • SR325
  • K701
  • K501
  • A900ltd

1. Iron_Dreamer's ATH-L3000
2. W5000
3. HD650
4. K701
5. DT880
6. SR225
7. A900/A700
8. HD595
9. KSC75 (taking price into consideration) and ES5
10. Everything else that I have heard....(SR60/80/125,HD555,465,515, AT ES7/ES5, K501/K81,DT770)

Note:You might find K501 and 770 to be rated slightly unfairly, but maybe it was because I didnt get to hear their full potential. So this list is purely IMO, and most of them were from different sources/amps and hence that obviously would've played a major role.

Time for an update already... (top positions have changed)

1. Electrostat 1 (angled Lambda Pro drivers)
2. Electrostat 2 (angled Signature Pro drivers)
3. AKG K 701 (not perfect, but close to my sonic ideal to date; low coloration, excellent detail and soundstage)
4. Sennheiser HD 650 (with Zu Mobius) (lusher variant of the sonic-ideal approach)
5. Sennheiser HE 90 (amps: mod. SRM-T1 / SRM-007II) (accuracy in person, but slightly dry, lacking treble sparkle, flow and low-bass impact)
6. Stax SR-404 (very accurate, but midrange a bit too colored for my taste)
7. Stax Lambda Pro
8. AKG K 1000 (excellent detail, organic, quite neutral, but no low bass to speak of; awfully uncomfortable)
9. Sony R10 (smooth and extended, unconspicuous)
10. Beyerdynamic DT 880 (2003 version) (unnatural treble accentuation, but never harsh)
11. (Stax 4070)
12. (Stax Lambda Pro)
13. Sennheiser HD 600 (with Zu Mobius or Silver Dragon) (no glaring flaws)
14. Etymotic ER-4P (modified) (ultimate bass extension, transient king, neutral, slight metallic sheen in the treble)
15. AKG K 501 (quite neutral and organic, but slightly hard lower treble and lacking low bass)
16. Sennheiser PX 100 (on iAudio 7 with equalizer almost on ER-4 level -- without equalizer on 33th position)
17. Stax Lambda Nova Classic
18. Sony SA 5000 (detail and upper mids emphasized, good bass, slightly hollow, neither organic nor homogeneous)
19. (Sony CD 3000)
20. Grado RS 1 (typically Grado: upfront, mid-bass and -treble emphasis)
21. Stax Gamma Pro
22. Sennheiser HD 595 (somehow «musical» and snappy, but also unrefined and somewhat midrangey, lacking extension)
23. Grado GS 1000 (very detailed, (mid-)bass and treble emphasis, recessed midrange -- too sharp and flashy for my taste)
24. Stax SR-007 (amps: mod. SRM-T1 / SRM-007II) (smooth, excellent resolution; boomy, obtrusive bass, slight hollowness; uncomfortable)
25. Grado PS 1 (the hyper-Grado -- streamlined version; slightly metallic)
26. (Shure E500)
27. Stax Sigma Pro
28. Audio Technica L 3000 (homogeneous, extended bass, but dull, life- and soundstageless)
29. Grado SR 225
30. Grado SR 325
31. Sony F1 (spacious, warm and colorful midrange, wooly treble, lacking extension at both ends; comfortable)
32. Sennheiser PX 200
33. Beyerdynamic DT 860 (smooth and extended, but awful treble spike)
34. AKG K81DJ (smooth and extended, but much too much bass and hollow characteristic)
35. Grado SR 80
36. Koss PortaPro

So I'm back into electrostatics. Maybe it's because my SRM-727II is about to complete its burn-in phase?

I am surprised that grado ps-1 has not been mentioned much so far; I think it is ranked above hp-1/2, especially the balanced version.

Are you referring to my list? It's there, on 25th position (

). The HP 1000 is one of the headphones I'd still like to audition and from what I gathered would suit my taste better than the PS 1.

Any pictures of the 'Electrostat 1" and "Electrostat 2"? Cause sounds like they are not stock Lambda's.
Great to see you back on track though!

Head-Fi stole one of my attachments. Now both links in my signature work again.

Thanks!
Now I remember seeing them before. Heavy modified SR-Sigmas it looks like, with the drivers mentioned in your previous post. Nice!
