@jolon The dowel size and placement are very specific on the XT-1/dedicated single pillar stand.
If you want to fix your XT-1's to the stand, I'd just go with the single pillar, unless you are absolutely positive the double pillar is compatible. If they are even slightly off, they won't work... unless you skip the dowels. It is a fairly snug fit.
If you don't want to fix your speakers to the stands, then you have gobs of options. I've always fixed my stand mount speakers to the stand, so, no idea of any sonic differences if you just sit them on top of a different stand. The XT-1's are not very heavy, so if you are not fixing them to the stands, make sure there is no chance of them getting bumped off the stands!
They are terrific speakers, particularly if you spend the time to really get the speaker positioning dialed in. Once you get them in the right spot, you'll know. Even very small changes can be noticeable and disregard whatever traditional speaker placement rules you see on the internet... experiment for yourself. A lazer measuring device/leveler can really help.
I loved my X-1's and XT-1's when I owned them.
