Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

Astonishing, these headphones definitely have a wow factor on songs you wouldn’t expect. Even more so than the TC.
The clarity, definition and imaging of the SR1a are pretty insane. I especially love how acoustic guitars sound with the SR1a. If often sounds better than someone playing it in front of me in a small room. But then, of course, that person wasn't Jimmy Page.

This rendition of Richard and Linda Thompson's 'Dimming of the Day' by Alison Krauss & Union Station is a great example of how amazing acoustic guitars and vocals sound with the SR1a. I have to admit that I got goosebumps and a few tears with this one...

WOW... This is pretty darned spectacular!!! Thanks for sharing. The same track(s) played back with the TCs... Well, as incredible as the TCs are... The Raals take this album to another level. My words can not describe what an awe inspiring sound experience this was for me... WOW!

Please take the time to listen to this track and the album.

Glad you really liked it! The SR1a has made me a huge fan of Alison Krauss and I can't say I'm really a bluegrass/country fan but I'm totally open to this genre now. The SR1a is great with many genres but it's music like this that really demonstrates its potential - natural acoustic instruments and the human voice.

This compilation album by Alison Krauss is really good too. The production is top notch.

The link to the album doesn't seem to work for me... What is the title of the album?
It's called 'A Hundred Miles Or More: A Collection'.

I'm listening to Cheap Trick's newest album on Qobuz and loving the experience with these headphones + HSA-1b! Simply one of the very best!

What version is that? I'm using the Woo Audio stand, but the two earspeakers touch, which I hate. This stand separates the earspeakers nicely. Once I know about the exact model, I'm going to purchase it asap :L3000:

Sr1a & jot r on the way, I'm coming from the Woo Audio WA33 and Abyss hd.
Interesting, my love affair with the Abyss Phi is winding down, will probably unload it in the near future. I've gotten so use to the open-air experience the SR1a design provides and the sound detail the ribbons provides it gets most of my ear time now. And when I want a change of pace I reach for my HD800 or HD800S: they are actually lighter than the SR1a and I find the bass completely satisfactory. (I had an affair with the Utopia for good while, loved the sound top to bottom but the ear cups were a skosh too small for my ears and I was spoiled by spacious comfort and cooler wearing Senn's for an around the ear HP.)

As a primarily classical music listener the SR1a does terrific job at the lower frequencies with acoustic instruments. But it's also very dependent on the SQ of the recording. I have no problem using Loki on the 20 Hz band if help is needed with the SR1a because the ribbons are so clean sounding up and down the frequency response range. And the Senns's need no help at all in the bass region from me with my music. The SR1a won't give that sense of air pressure at the lowest frequencies like the 1266, depending on seating on the ears, where the 1266 can be very powerful and I think if listened to popular music genres that would be a consideration.

If a direct drive tube amp could be possible for the SR1a, hmmm...

My wife has yet to experience the Raals... So I asked her to listen to a song or two. When I handed them to her she asked, "Is this what you've been working on the basement?" I asked her what she meant. She replied "Did you make these? They look like something you made from spare parts."

Lol... Wives... Gotta love them.
