Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A
Aug 5, 2020 at 3:51 AM Post #2,491 of 7,865
Burning in my pair currently. I saw some discussion on aftermarket cables but read there can be issues with resistance based on length/conductor. Anyone have experience with cables for these yet? It'd be nice to add some more warmth/low end and maybe tone down the treble a bit. Every other headphone has benefited from a cable upgrade, I hope the RAALs can too.

Decided to try a Moon Audio Black Dragon (5 ft length based on Torq's respected advice pertaining to cable resistance).

Less treble, more bass, warmer, more liquid mids, larger soundstage and no change in focus/clarity/transient response.

Summary: buy one. Thank me later.

Hi, did you changed only the headphones cable? Not that one from adapter to amplifier?

If anyone's thinking of selling their pair here just putting it out there that I'm on the look out for a used Raal SR1a and transformer box. :)

Will probably wait until end of august and then buy new if needed..

After installing the co-pilot head band pad I find one of my Woo stand works nicely with it.

With the co-pilot installed the bottom of the wings don’t crush against each other.

Hi love these and am currently fixated on the following amps

McCormack DNA amp .5, 1 125 or 225
Cary V12 or CAD120s
Audio Research vs110
NAT 805 integrated or 811 mono blocks

right now using a Schiit Aegir single and its better than the JotR to me but underpowered

Spend Sunday auditioning two tube amps the NAT 805 (what a beast) and the Cary 120 mkll. Both showed me what the RAAL could scale to with a good tube amp.

I went Cary and will have it in house tomorrow night. Midrange and bass is significantly improved over the JotR or Vidar.

I am also back to Rogue Cronus magnum 2 fitted with Telefuken 12ax7 and Amperex 12au7 from Jot R.

It sounds much more gracious through Rogue than Jot R.

I believe Sr1a need dedicated tube amp.

I also have good result with two 18 inch Scaena subwoofers to complement bass of Sr1a.

But even without subwoofer, it still sounds good enough for most Jazz music driven by Rogue.

It has round midrange texture, clean treble and excellent separation of instruments through Rogue.

I also have Schitt Freya + fitted with Kenrad vt231 at gain stage and Sylvania vt231 at buffer stage in front of Rogue.

just wow! While the Cary is not the best tube amp, it is very good. It is really showing what the RAAL can do. I have it hooked up direct to my source a Lumin T2 while I ponder a pre amp

it is 60 watts triode and 120 ultra linear on a minor increase in volume going ultra linear and the sound is better in triode.
going direct from my source a LUMIN T2 I am using T 66-76 of a 100 scale volume. I may add a Cary preamp at some point.

Assuming you're using it, how are you liking Lumin's Leedh processing firmware upgrade? I find it to be fantastic.
