I suspect replacement ear pads will be priced along the lines of the pads for the SR1a and significantly cheaper than my 1226, or previously owned Utopia.

CA pads will be significantly cheaper.
That Italian lambskin velour and sewing, etc., for SR1 bares a significant cost and we will proportionally transfer the savings to our clients.
We still have to do foam selection after laser cutting (a good number of rejects), then dye it black, dry it and glue it with epoxy spread on the supporting ring, but it's all in-house and we're not paying manual labor to others.

We could also dye the memory foam in red, just like on SR1, and now I'm trying to find the right mix of dye to see if I can get the burgundy color or something very dark, but with a subtle red hue.
Something that will separate it from regular black foam but not looking tacky or over-the-top.

For those CA-1a early adopters, try rotating the pads so the mid gap located at the front of each faces the back. I prefer the sound and comfort this way but YMMV.

You can also swap the cups altogether. The hinges at the end of the forks are not screwed in. Just pull out the hinge...

Why would someone want to do this? Mostly just if you damage something and need it replaced?

It might be interesting to someone for experimental reasons, but yeah, no reason for it otherwise. There is no gain in that.
