Hello everyone,

To be precise on the TI-1b,

To avoid any confusion, The SR-1a/b need Open baffle Compensation barrels, but CA-1a does not.

So, all CA-1a orders together with the TI-1b set will not include the OB Comp. barrels.

If you order a TI-1b set on it's own, please specify for which headphones you need it.

The B-stock prices are also 25% off with free shipping:

TI-1b/OB (for SR-1a/b): $562.50, shipping included

TI-1b (for CA-1a): $487.50, shipping included

Thanks

Alex

And yet another very satisfying listening experience at EarMen/Auris HQ!

The little wonder-amp is EarMen CH-Amp.
3.8 Watts of clarity AND authority, driving the TI-1b/CA-1a with noooo problems!

P.S.
The EISA Award is for the EarMen Headphone System, not for TI-1b :)

I find the sr1a far tougher to drive with the adapter than I do the CA...the HSA-1b drives the sr1a better IMHO...

Correct.
the SR1's loose SPL on open baffle acoustical cutoff, and the OB Comp. barrel just continues adding the loss to mid-highs, to equalize the loss across the audio band.
Basically, wasting around 4 dB everywhere. In power, that is 2.5 times.

In order to drive the SR1 properly, you just need to invest 2.5x more power than for the same SPL on CA1.
6W on the TI -1 will match what HSA does driving direct.

If the amp can really develop 6W, either at 32 or 16 Ohms, without clipping, that is it.

This will require unusually high position of the volume pot (to compensate the sensitivity difference between SR1 and
normal" headphones), but if the amp is not clipping, distorting or getting into thermal overload, it does not matter where the pot needs to be.

The amount of gain in headphone amps is set for "normal" headphones. It may happen that you can run out out of gain. In other words, the volume pot is cranked up all the way, but the amp is not clipping or audibly distorting.

Is it out of your CFA3? I’m finding the volume level between SR1a and CA1a very very close on my CFA3 with TI-1b. Maybe just a half-stripe difference on CFA3 volume pot level.

on my cfa3 I require far more volume with the sr1a than I do with the CA...I am about the same as my susvara with the CA but far beyond with the sr1a...I think my cfa3 is attenuated to an extent that it requires the volume pot be quite high

I just realized that Mitch from Accurate Sound has the CA1a filters available on his website. I straightaway purchased them, and there’s two filters: one for the open pad, and the other one for the fully closed pad. Oh lord, it has really taken CA1a up another level. The donut pads are actually usable now, the sound of course is obviously still not as open sounding as the open pads, but sooo much better. No longer dark and congested and wonky.

The open pad filter is really incredible. The stage has gotten even bigger, and the air and space around instruments are phenomenal. I think the CA1a filters have a more profound effect compared to SR1a filters. Highly highly recommended!! 👍🏼

How do the fir filtered CA1a compare to the SR1a (with or without convolution)?

For now I prefer the filtered CA vs SR

I also purchased the filters for the CA, I already had the sr1a version which I liked but I think I like the CA version even better because the CA can be it a bit aggressive at least in my set up and the filters take the edge off a bit while keeping all the virtues..I usually do not use EQ but these filters are the first I have used and enjoyed

I have the VM-1a, Schitt JR, and have tried about 10 2-channel amps with the SR1a. The best is of course the VM-1a, a 10/10 and unmatched by anything else. The JR was a 6/10. The best 2 channel setup I had for the SR1a cost $30K total and it was an 8/10. I thought it was a 10/10 prior to the VM-1a. I sold most of that 2-channel setup after I got the VM-1a.

Last night, I tried a new amp that I was not sure about but was curious. It is a digital amp, similar to a Technics or Lyndorf. It is the $1400 Peachtree GAN1. Digital means in this case a single SPDIF input on the amp and no DAC needed. No interconnects are needed. I stream from a Sonore OpticalRendu (fibre) so I needed to buy the $500 Sonore UltrraDigital to convert USB to SPDIF. I also use ROON and I had to setup my OpticalRendu endpoint to DEVICE VOULME from FIXED volume. There is no preamp or DAC in this setup with volume. A minimalist setup with the hope that it improves the sound. Peachtree also sells a Bluesound Node to get from Ethernet to SPDIF. A pairing of the NODE and GAN1 was $1650 but I wanted to use my better Fibre streaming so I skipped the Node (wish I got it now though).

The sound was amazing with the GAN1 + SR1a + fibre streaming. The amp seems a little rolled off, so it was a perfect match with the SR1a. It was a bit like Mitch's SR1a Convolution filter. I do not used any filters with my SR1a. I used to with a Benchmark AHB2. I would rate the sound of the PeachTree GAN1 amp as an 8.5/10. It is limited to 1 input, but it has a spot in my house now, likely in the family room where I can rest on a comfy chair. A home run all the way with the SR1a.

To add to my post. Today, I sent my Peachtree GAN1 amp to the guy running the following audio company.
http://tweakaudio.com/
He mostly mods gear but also makes new products too.

I also sent my SR1a, SR728 cable, and the adapter box to him to check out and hear what I was hearing.

Two years ago, he modded my LSA Voyager GAN 350 to really high sonic levels. I sold it since I still liked the Benchmark AHB2 more than the Voyager. The Voyager was still slightly fatiguing with the SR1a even after the mods. On 2-channel it was great. The GAN1 will come back home a different beast, no guarantees it will sound as good with the SR1as in stock form.
