R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby

I can only get DSD files to play on uapp if I select DoP or DSD to PCM. if I select native I only get white noise.
Thanks for your reply. Seems this is not (at least currently) possible with how uapp has set up their drivers and Hiby's dta.

Btw, has anyone found any tempered glass screen protector that fits r5? Tried googling without luck.

I would prefer to go a step up from Bluetooth if possible. Auxiliary input would be great but the BMW does not have it. Most cars don't have aux inputs anymore. Sad but true. I think Apple Carplay sounds pretty good but alas the Android audio is not supported yet by BMW. You can hook an iphone directly via USB or via wifi with carplay but so far I can't get anything similar with the R5.

no offense but i really think you are overthinking this. your car is far from an ideal listening environment to begin with. the difference between a BT connection and a wired one will not be noticeable.

Unless the BT connection is Ldac, yes, the difference between wired IS noticeable, quite noticeable, in fact.

Hey,

i got my R5 a couple of days ago and it is a good one but unfortunately i have the following issue:

When i want to hear music with the Amazon Music App, the physical buttons (back, forward and play) doesnt work in the app. So if i try to pause or to skip a track in the amazon music app, it´s going to switch in the hiby music app and do so...

Can anybody help me out?

Cheers

Florian

Yeah, I've also been looking for a glass protector without success.
The Alcatel pixi has a 4" screen, but I suspect the glass protectors available for it cover the entire front of the phone, which may be too big for the R5, dunno.

I received my R5 (amazing that Hiby got it to me in the UK from China in around a week despite the difficulties China is facing ATM), and I measure the extra supplied screen protector at 49mm X 99mm, but I can't for the life of me find any manufacturer who lists their exact screen size (even diagonally).

Hiby may have improved the quality of the fitted protector since the review/early units went out, as the one on my R5 is really not too bad. A little grippy but it's so minor I wouldn't have noticed but for the comments I read elsewhere.
I'd definitely prefer a glass protector though, gonna keep looking.

My very early impression of the R5 is that I love it BTW.
The Dignis case is an absolutely perfect fit, and beautifully made.
New toy syndrome and all, but instead of listening to music into the early hours, skipping from track to track thinking "wow that sounds great, I'm gonna skip to the next track early to see how good it sounds too", I've found myself listening to music into the early hours, but riveted to every track right through as they all sound too good to abandon early!
Very addictive.
The form factor is perfect for me too. Small enough to be VERY pocketable, but big enough to accommodate a screen just big enough to exploit the convenience of the full Android experience without incurring the 'fat finger' penalty.

I was slightly sceptical that the R5 managed to present with a low noise floor/black background whilst still having the grunt to push full size cans with power to spare, but Im happy to say that there is indeed plenty of grunt on tap.

Gotta go do some more listening  :L3000:

in a moving vehicle?
Dude, the general rule of Head Fi is not to question why people want something. If you don't agree, take it to the hifi debate forums. If you can't help out, its better to not respond.

I got some pushback when I noted that some head fi readers like MP3 and AAC for their devices. I was not stating that I like those options very much, but others do. Somehow it was assumed that by stating the facts I was supporting those facts. Actually I like uncompressed music but I understand that others like compressed algorithms. To each their own and on the forums its best to not try to start arguments like this.

It would appear that some devices can allow physical buttons to work with Amazon Music and some examples were provided to Joe. With any luck that may be supported at some point.

Hm...that wasnt the answer i was hoping for but thank you anyway :)

So i assume, that none of you have this kind of Issue ?
Sorry, don't have Amazon so can't check.

BTW, as I suspected the R5 doesn't have a microphone (understandable) so to answer one of my own questions from earlier, Shazam can't be used on R5.
Not that it's a biggie at all, as I can easily Shazam tracks on my cellphone and add them to Spotify from there.

So....I decided to try to pair the R5 via good old fashioned blue tooth to my wife's BMW. I was surprised that nothing seemed to work!

So if you have ever paired a R5 to a current model BMW please let me know how you did it. Well, I should point out that they paired but Amazon music would not play to the car so as far as I am concerned that is a fail. Thanks!

Oh I thought that was fairly clear in my response. Yes, it is definitely an issue and there is no fix as of yet.

To their credit right now I would rank HiBy fairly highly for their responsiveness. They seem to have found their groove.

I wouldn't think it would matter what app one plays from- if the device links via bluetooth shouldn't it transmit anything played on the device?
