I just noticed the "soundfield" plugin, which uses some sort of magic to make things sound wider. I don't think I've seen this before and I'm wondering if it is contributing to the new sound impressions. Did I just miss it? It seems to work well until you get towards the 2.0 point, then it sounds off.

No it's wider without it, but that's a nice dsp effect it was on the ap80. But a little bit will do ya.

Technically that is possible. The biggest hurdle is finding the right cables and/or adapters.

Ya i have seen cables like this in aliexpress my concern is how that 3rd pin in XLR will work.

Yes, it works just fine. I use one myself from Hiby R5 to Xduoo TA-20 fully balanced throughout the chain and it sounds great.

No, LO has in general no volume control.

The difference :

In general the line out is meant for external audio processing devices and amps, and delivers raw audio information without amplification and volume control.

The headphone out is an amplified signal to drive headphones or speakers and has therefore volume control.

Line Out

Digital Receiver - > DAC - > Analogue Output
External Amp : - > Preamp stage >> Amplifier stage

Headphone output : Digital Receiver - > DAC - > Analogue Output - > Preamp stage >> Amplifier stage

I think the R5 has such LO, but just fixates volume at the Max. Like the r3.

LO on Hiby R5 does have volume control. Not "true" LO, but I believe the difference is that the output impedance is higher. Setting Volume to 100 means you get rail voltage.

always have been a fan of cirrus logic sound, to me sounds better than AK or ESS., enjoyed my time from fiio x3ii to colorfly c10 and ziku x9.
was wondering if hiby R5 sounds anything like those mentioned players?
