Hi,
My new R5 has an issue when listening to downloaded HD files from Qobuz and the new Amazon HD streaming service. Mid-song or so it just stops playing for about a second. I don't have to press "play" to restart, it just starts up again. Because it is the same issue with both streaming services, I am at a loss. It has the latest firmware.
Thoughts appreciated very much.

It would not have Play Store and there would be nothing you can do to change that.

Bare minimum initial impression concerning differences in sound between FiiO M9 & Hiby R5 using Audiosense T800 and a lossless ECM label avant-garde jazz cd ripped to flac.
R5 is more powerful. M9 requires hi gain to reach similar volume level at equal setting.
R5 sounds more dynamic. ECM label jazz seems a good reference for this sort of comparison as they are mastered with subtly and seeming flatness. On M9 it sounds rather dull; R5 sounds more energetic and engaging.

Much power and better soundstage plus clearer sound.Interesting, How much better than just playing through the R5?

@Joe Bloggs For those of us in the UK that want to order the Hiby R5 but don't want to order through Hiby store in case of issue down the line and return process being fairly arduous.Unless you know of any UK way of sorting issue?
Will the R5 be on sale via Amazon UK anytime soon as other brands are becoming available such as ibasso dx160, Fiio M11 pro, and Shanling M6.
Or will it appear on Amp3
?
I like the style and form factor of the Hiby R5 and battery life also hence the questions above.
Thank you again I hope to hear of good news

More initial impressions. Confounded after my first post. Listening to more samples and seem to hear more treble, less bass via R5 compared to M9. If treble in song is at all harsh it is more evidently so on R5 than M9. M9 may even present more cohesively but less broadly. Still se. Be nice to hear other M9/R5 comparisons. No “brain burn in” yet on R5.

i dont need play store

It has great SQ, but I don't think you would be able to load any other apps without it (Tidal, other music players, etc.), which I think is a big part of the R5. I'm not sure I'd consider it worth the price if it's essentially just a music player, but it's your wallet. Hopefully you're planning on using the balanced output, I'm not sure it has a huge benefit over other units otherwise. The balanced output is where it really shines, and has real power to drive almost anything.i dont need play storeneed only good SQ

What do you think is better at this price point as a music player?
It depends on how you're using it. If I'm using the balanced output, I don't have anything stand-alone that beats it and I don't regret the purchase at all. It fits my use cases across the board and the sound from the balanced out is amazing. Most of my gear has balanced cables now, I upgraded when I bought the ES100 and R3. But I'm kind of underwhelmed by the unbalanced out -- I doubt I'd pay the $200 premium for it over the R3 if I wasn't using the Android functionality and the balanced output. Thankfully I don't need to worry about that. What do you think is better at this price point as a music player?

Using BAL out should not be a problem for any user... .
Some of my gear doesn't have balanced -- either fixed cables (Radsone HE100) or my AKG cans. I don't find myself reaching for those as much with the R5.Using BAL out should not be a problem for any user... .

As strictly a music player, the zx300 is really nice. It's going to have a bit better battery life from the balanced end and will have better standby time. The UI is simple but very well made. What do you think is better at this price point as a music player?
If you're running full headphones it could be an issue though. It's fantastic for IEMs .

You've got mseb and the ability to use different apps as music players. That plus the power and more slightly neutral and more resolving signature puts this thing in the top of the class at this price point imo.
Oh, and it's dead silent with all the iems I've tried, even the 64 audio tia forte. The other daps I've tried before hissed a bit, even with my akt8ieii. That includes the sr15, m11, and zx300/wm1a. Now that wasn't a lot of hiss on those daps, but I could hear it. It wasn't enough to bug me during regular listening, but the r5 is very quiet.
