R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby

"Hot" not "warm"...

Unless he measured it 'hot' means nothing. I don't know how many times I've had the same dap that got warm that people were saying it got really hot. Either way components and the li poly cell are meant to withstand some heat.

I'll check mine today later, but I'm really not concerned with that.

If it sounds anything like ak sr15 it will be cool, especially since I can use neutron- which I find to sound better than the hiby app. Sr15 size and sound with better battery life and full android would be awesome.

Just got it, very nice, my buttons are very solid and the build quality is excellent. And the audio (balanced out) is very excellent. Have to try bluetooth and neutron. Will report on any excess heat.

Shoot if you have any questions. And yes it's tuned more to neutral, lots of treble energy.

Awesome! I'm curious if it sounds as good as the zx300. I've been waiting for a device just like this (small size for pocketability, streaming apps, good battery life). Kinda my dream device really!

Is the UI pretty fluid?

After the scan the UI was choppy, but after I excited hiby music and started it again it's pretty fast and fluid. With just a tiny bit of album art pop in after scrolling.

The sound so far through balanced is at least on par with zx300. But more neutral and crisper sounding. The bass still is good, - better than I expected. But I added a bit of warmth with hiby MSEB and it's a bit less sharp sounding.

The stage is very deep and wide also, no complaints. And lots of dynamics and power - sounds bigger and clearer than ak sr15. Very very nice so far.

And no heat at at all yet, only been listening a short bit, but it's very loud and cool as a cucumber.

Found a vid in german:

He s saying the Player gets really hot... .

Thanks for that. I know him for his honest and independent reviews.

He addresses 3 things that make me wonder..
1. 40-50 degree of temperature with standard use.. That's pretty hot and uncomfortable to be honest.
2. The build quality of the below glass and the buttons seems to be not too good, and he shows why. I hope that this is just a single bad device.
3. The Android system seems to be quite slow when having multiple apps opened. Nothing too bad but disturbing in daily use I guess

Okay that sounds different from the last review.
So it seems he really got a bad luck device.

Good to hear yours is all fine! And.. No heat on your device?
