Quiet Comp builders: Post your builds!

I've got:

Athlon X2 3800+ with Thermaltake 'Silent K8' HSF. It's not silent, but it is pretty quiet, and it's an alu heatsink with copper base and heatpipes and 80mm fan, so I could always replace the fan.
MSI K8NGM2-FID (mATX nForce 4 w/ geforce 6150 board)(No fans on board)
2x512MB GSkill PC3200
Lite-On DVD-RW
2 x WD 80GB 8MB 7200RPM IDE drives - one is older than the other, and the old one is by far the loudest thing in my PC
Seasonic 330w PSU

There aren't any case fans, as there isn't a case. It's sitting on a shelf.

So, to pose a question - Is there a good cheap case I can get that is quiet?

Also, short of replacing it, which I am considering, is there a way to make my hard drives quieter?

My listening computer (NOT what I play games on

)

Athlon XP 1600+ @ 1.2 GHz (underclocked) cooled with Zalman on lowest setting
Epox 8RDA+ motherboard (passively cooled northbridge)
512 mb PC2700
128 mb 9800pro with Zalman heatpipe (passive)
2x 250 GB Seagate SATA hardrives in RAID1 (silent even when seeking)
LiteON LDW811s DVDRW (noisy as hell when in use, but all music ripped in FLAC on hardrive)
E-MU0404 custom breakout cable
1x 80 mm Panaflo rear (23 cfm)
1x 80 mm Panaflo front (23 cfm)
430 watt Antec TruePower
Antec 1000SX case
Dell 2405 FPW (24" widescreen LCD)

sits on the floor to the left of my desk. Audible only when you put your head right next to the case.

Ouch, $50+ for the ones that cover the whole thing, and $20+ for the ones that do the sides. Considering that I am low on hard drive space as it is, probably makes more sense to pick up a big and quiet SATA hard drive and be done with it. Reccomendatoions?

current setup - not quiet yet, but when I sell the phase change will be.

Coolermaster ATC 101b sx-4 with Aerogate II
Pc Power and Cooling 510 SLI modified with external pots
AMD Opteron 146 CABNE (1mb cache, same as FX-57) @ 3.5ghz
Chilly1 modified Prometia Mach 1
DFI SLI-DR Motherboard
2x EVGA 7800GTX with ACS/3 Silent Cooling
2GB Mushkin XP4000 Redline RAM 272mhz 2-2-2-5
1 Terrabyte hard drive space
EMU 0404 (soon to be modified)
Dell 2005 FPW Widescreen LCD

I've been on the front page of the ORB when I was watercooling my video cards, for those of you who know the ORB is.

All that runs to a Mister X PPA 2 -> Grado RS-1 / Super.Fi Pro 5

Here's a picture of my computer. Notice how clean the inside is. Hopefully this is the cleanest you've seen

I'm a little suprised nobody has gone properly noiseless?

I've got a system part built, so far :

Passive P3 1ghz
786mb PC133 (vrrm!)
DC-DC PSU (no fans)
Emu 0404 with 75r BNC for Spdif
20gb 5400rpm laptop drive
Generic mini atx case and dvdrom

I'm currently planning the best way to go diskless, the expensive way is compact flash to IDE, maybe network booting via gigabit lan, usb stick...

Almost have no noise at all! No matter how well encased you can still hear a laptop drive, I'm being fussy but its going to be moving partless!

Once I'm over my current audio projects ($!) I'm going to replicate the rig with a Pentium M so it can be a HDTV media centre.

My main rig is the usual high power P4@3.8, noisy GFX and 15k scsi drives - sounds like a turbine

Is that white bladed fan over the CPU a standard size? I mean if I felt the need could I replace my AMD one with a bigger one?

I am not using a fan on my coppermine 866 secondary rig, but cant afford to go fanless on the PSU. maybe I should try some exotic fanless PSU for my next upgrade

Wow, I just installed Speedfan and plugged my loud side fan(36+ Db

) into my motherboard, turned it down to 65 percent. My computer is soooo much quieter now!

Temps are great, 29c CPU and 28c System, while surfing head-fi. CPU went all the way up to 33c while I was gaming.

Here's a pic of my innards, I spent a bit of time with some basic wire hiding and I have very good airflow, so I'm happy. (I've changed it a bit since this picture, the wire going to the side fan is now plugged into the motherboard)

Specs are: Athlon 64 3000+, 2x512 Corsair Value Ram, ATI x600 128mb (Stepping my AGP eVGA 6800 to a PCI-Express 6800GS, so I'm using a borrowed x600 for now), Fortron Source 400 watt PSU, Chaintec VNF4 motherboard, Sound Blaster Live! 24bit, 40 and 80 gig Western Digital hard drives. Case is Thermaltake Tsunami Dream, with 2 no name 120mm fans and a nice 92mm side fan.

Almost similar to my second system, only that I chose to use a low-speed/noise 120mm fan in the PSU (the rest of the system are cooled passively). I feel more comfortable with the 'protection', especially since it's summer in this southern hemisphere. Most importantly, the system is practically noiseless (you have to press the ears close to hear anything - the slight buzzing from my CRT monitor is comparatively audible).

I'm glad it's been useful. Personally the main things to worry about are PSU, Heatsink fan and case fans. The rest makes noise, but not as much.

Chri5peed: The fan I use is a new nexus model which is white. I think it looks better than the old orange fans. THe fan is incredibly silent, but doesn't push a ton of air if thats what your looking for. For my purpose its works well.

Its a 120mm fan. I had to sand out the corners to fit my heatsink, but it wasn't difficult.
