Been asked a thousand times before i'm sure, but i don't have much time to search. HD600 vs HD650.
WHICH IS MORE REFINED? What is the better quality phone overall in a quick, simple answer. Also, how is the soundstage? Sorry to make you all answer this again!! Thanks.

HD650 is a bit more colored than the more neutral 600's, but are very very refined.

I prefer the 600s too. For me 650s are a little too bass heavy and laid back. Also, some people find 600s too bright and thin. You should try both them out if you can.

Thanks for the answers guys! really helped. I'll pick the more refined phone, which seems to be 650. I hate making decisions, and i have plenty more to make yet.

IMHO, the HD650 are the more refined of the two, but the HD600 are the more honest and balanced. : )

[Although I hear that running the HD650 balanced, and with a worthy amp, tips the scale decidedly in their favor.]

Absolutely - HD650s are a wee bit smoother and more refined... but... the HD580/600s sound "way better."

Depends on who you ask. There are others, like myself, who think the HD-650 is better-sounding by a far margin. "Better" in this case is a subjective word, after all.

Cheers!

HD600 and HD580 sound "better"; HD650 is more "refined".

The HD600 are the ones you'll want.

You didn't speicfy the type of music you listen to.

I spent a good deal of time at CanJam 08 comparing the 650s with the 600s. For classical music (I didn't have deep base organ music with me) the 600's won hands down -- sounded like a good concert hall. For rock, with bass slam, the 650's did it for me.

In fact, I have heard that Senn came out with the 650's to win back the rock audience they lost with the 580/600 series.

In classical I like to hear the attack edge of the strings, and sharpness in the reeds ... so I guess that is less smooth, but to me (not for others, I understand) smooth is smeared. For jazz I think the conclusion would also be the 650's
therefore, but I didn't test.

I think in essence I am repeating/validating Zorander, who answered you first!
