I read a post on another forum that claimed that CMOY amps could damage headphones. Specifically, the dual battery versions can easily damage headphones with high levels of DC.

Is this true? If so, are some phones more apt to be damaged than others based on impedance?

I have 2 CMOY amps, one is a single battery model the other is a dual battery model. I use these with Grado headphones (32 ohms).

Would be interested in hearing what the experts here have to say... thanks.

Yes they can. but only when the battery goes low. With dual battery when the batteries are uneven it can lead to an uneven virtual ground. The cmoy should be clipping way before the battery runs out though so if your cmoy sounds distorted you should turn it off till you change the battery.
