Hey all,

I have a question regarding a full sized receiver that I purchased several years ago. I'm in the market for some headphones (in the $150 - $250 range). I know that the particular headphone is going to dictate the amp required, but I wanted to know if my existing receiver would drive certain cans.

Specifically, I already own a Yahama HTR-5830 receiver. This is used to drive my home theater surround sound system. While I don't have a problem dropping the extra $80 - $120 for a FiiO brand headphone amp, I wanted to see if this receiver would drive a decent headphone for the time being. At the moment I am unsure of what headphone I want to purchase, but a Beyer might be in my future. Perhaps a Denon if I want to spend a little more.

Thanks for your responses in advance.

I would say get headphones in the 80-Ohm to 300-Ohm range.
If the headphone jack has a high impedance, low Ohm headphone may not perform at their best.

Websites like AVSforum or AVforum would be able to advise you a better on the HTR-5830 receiver (except for headphones).
