Is there a way to make songs have a balance on both sides of the headphones?  I'm not talking about the headphones being damaged or anything but certain songs like to have vocals on one side and instrumentals on the other, its annoying.  I want a complete surround sound effect.

If you want to, you can try to convert the songs from stereo to mono.  That is the only way I know of to fix this.  However, artists position the instruments like this on purpose.  Just a FYI, keep backups before you do this.

Nah it's not converted, this is pretty strange.  I just tested out on 2 other pairs of headphones and I'm getting the same thing so I know it's not the headphones.  It could be the ipod or the song... or my ear even.

Yeah, I know what you are talking about -- it used to annoy me as well. From what I know, converting your files all to mono is the only solution I know of.

The American rock band The Doors had a lot of this in their recordings. They would pan the drums, guitars or keyboards to one side. I think it sounds very cool and unique. :)

Hmm... listened to the song, and it seems like that's just part of the song... Personally I think it makes the song more interesting in general, but is there a specific part you thought was off?

Do you mean like stuff that was converted to mono from stereo? (e.g. old Beatles stuff)
I think you can use crossfeed to even it out a bit without converting completely to mono

Yeah I think that is what crossfeed is for. I have a LOT of music and the only music I have that has this stereo positioning is, incidentally, the original mono masters of the Beatles that were converted to stereo.

I think I know what you're talking about, but as an aside I don't notice it at all on Android Porn. It's kind of irritating though, especially with IEMs. One track where it really makes it hard to listen to is Ratatat's "Seventeen Years".
I've tried converting to mono before but it sort of makes the music sound lifeless and flat (but flat in a bad way).
