I finally worked up the nerve to try the foam mod on these after owning them for 4 years. I don't think I broke anything, the headphones still work fine but I ran into one problem. When I was trying to replace the screen on the corded side, I noticed it was having trouble sitting in place towards the bottom, so I check there and found a little foam cube that was stopping the screen from snapping into place. It was partially nestled between some wires and a metal piece above where the cord attaches to the earcup. I tried fidling with in hopes of figuring out its original position, but it came loose and I was afraid to mess with it any further so I set it aside and put the headphones back together.
 
Now I am wondering about the importance of this piece and if I should try to put it back in place or not. Any ideas?
