I got the A161P IEMs on the cyber monday promotion and have just started to use them at work - just with a desktop computer. I have heard these IEMs described as "detailed" or "analytical" but it seems to totally alter music i know very well. I've tried MP3s all the way up to DSD files.

Do I need a better DAC to take advantage of these IEMs? The only thing I have to compare with is JVC HA-FXD80-Z which sounds fine through the computer.

I don't consider them analytical, rather on the warm side of neutral with a moderate bass boost and an aggressive midrange.

Since you are using them from your computer, output impedance could be an issue. If they sound harsh, this could be the reason. In that case, any dac or amp with 1 ohm or less output impedance would be an instant improvement.

Your JVC's are dynamic drivers and aren't really all that impacted by high OI.

The A161 aren't analytical by any means.  They are a sweeter sound, similar to a sound you'd expect from Shure.
