If I rip a K2 HD cd to my computer using a lossless codec will I still be getting the same sound quality as if it were playing in a cd player (obviously ignoring quality of gear)?

Thanks.

K2 HD isn't the same as HDCD, in that it doesn't require a secial decoder, FYI.

It will be at least as good or better, depending on how good your cd drive is at ripping audio (if its any good it'll be perfect). lossless = the input wav file to the lossless file is bit perfect to the output wav file from decoding it.

Thanks for the input peoples. The reason I asked is that I always use Apple Lossless, but I thought that the codec might have been designed to be for standard CDs only and that because K2 HD contains extra data that a CD does not normally have then the codec would just ignore that and rip it like a normal CD.
- sorry if I got my terminology wrong, hope it still makes sense.

No, KD HD is just a mastering technique. No extra data. Still just a normal CD (16-bit words at 44.1KHz sample rate).

I was gonna say, I thought you just asked this question about a week ago.

As Davey said, absolutely no special equipment or treatment is needed for K2HD or any of the other JVC mastering types. All of the improvements that go into a K2HD CD occur before and during the pressing of the CD. After that, it's just a CD like any other.

Thanks for the refresher, this time I will commit this to memory.
