Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread

I've been using Roon for the past few years, but previously I looked into bit-perfect in the Qobuz app and didn't find a definitive answer.

You could try this... set the system sound output (speaker icon in the Mac menu bar) to your Mac speakers, and in the Qobuz app set the output to your USB DAC. This is effectively like exclusive mode (there is nothing else in the USB audio output to mix with Qobuz). Does it still go through the MacOS sound mixer, and more importantly, do bits pass through unaltered? I don't know. At least my DAC shows the bit rate changing to match the Qobuz track, which is one of the necessary requirements to verify bit-perfect.

FWIW, Chris Connaker of the Audiophile Style website is very picky about bit-perfect and he thinks the Qobuz app on Mac is bit perfect.
https://audiophilestyle.com/ca/bits-and-bytes/apple-musics-lossless-and-hi-res-mess-r1022/
(the article is about testing Apple Music for bit-perfect but he mentions Qobuz a few times)

i read that and yes my DAC shows the bitrate correctly.
however Audirvāna sounds quite different streaming Qobuz than Qobuz through its native app.
Audirvāna also can do ‘ hog’ mode on a Mac so nothing else is played or goes through the mixer in iOS. I suspect the ‘ hog’ mode to be the culprit, and Tidal has this in their Mac player. Don’t know why qobuz does not.

Qobuz really should fix this and offer a exclusive mode on their native player

thanks for the link!

Have you guys noticed that Qobuz on Mac is NOT bitperfect?

it doesn’t have an exclusive mode.
you can play Qobuz and then play a YouTube video and it will play both.
which means it’s going through the mixer in IOS

i didn’t know this the whole time I had Qobuz.

i was wondering why Qobuz sounded different when using it through Audirvana which does use exclusive mode.

WTH?

Tidal has an exclusive mode on their App for Apple Mac
I feel your pain. For me, Roon resolved any sonic issues inherent with the Mac with it's own exclusive mode.

This is what Qobuz responded to me

not much of a response.
didnt tell me if it is Bitperfect or not.

I mean how difficult is it to get programmers to do this at Qobuz?

Thank you for steering us in the right direction! While that is not a function we currently offer, it is indubitably a frequent request. I’m going to send your suggestion to our Dev team for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

I'd just like it if they could figure out how to remember the last position in your library after you press the back button. It's killing my productivity and scroll wheels.
Unforgivable. That function has been in existence for at least 30 years on most things with scrolling ability.

So I messaged their support team and this is what I received -

Our Dev team is now aware of this issue affecting Android and is working to resolve it with our next update. We hope it will be in the next week or two. However, I don't have a more specific timeline that I can currently share with you.

We hope it will be in the next two weeks? You have to wonder what kind of Pre-Prod testing they have when they can't catch a bug in download playlists....
So a new build of Qobuz was available for Android (6.10.1.0) I installed it and I am sorry to say that the new version did NOT resolve this issue. I sent another message to their "support" and got this as a reply -

"Hi,

Thanks for your follow-up message. Fiio uses a bespoke flavor of the Android operating system.

I am looking forward to resolving this for you ASAP. Do you mind telling me what FIIO support suggested? It would be excellent if you could provide me with a support case # too. I can then take that information to our partner team to investigate for you. You can cc support@qobuz.com on any correspondence."

I "reminded" them that they acknowledged the issue previously (and provided them a copy of the response) and asked why they kicked it to Fiio. Support promptly disconnected so we are back to wait and see... I will give it a few weeks before I decide to drop them until it's fixed.

*UPDATE* I signed up for BETA testing and was able to download ver 7.0.0.0 - the issue with downloads not working is still there. I have a bad feeling this will not get fixed anytime soon...

Downloaded new Android Beta 7.0.1.0 and the inability to download for offline use is STILL not working...

I find it does work, it just gets very slow if you have a large library (also on Beta)
Not for me - what are you running Qobuz on? After 40+ minutes there is no download activity and the network is NOT the issue...
It works fine on iOS and WIN 11. They have acknowledged that the function is broken, but they have not fixed it yet.

Mostly an ibasso dx240 (android 11) but also a Samsung s20. I can usually get 50gb to download/import at a decent pace then it slows to a crawl around 100gb. It's pretty erratic though - not like Apple who have downloads nailed.

Qobuz coming to Canada May 2023.

Not sure if this is common knowledge or not but appears they are planning to come to Canada. As part of the deal they will absorb QUB Musique out of Quebec.

Quote From the news release:

"PARIS and MONTRÉAL, Feb. 17, 2023 /CNW/ - Qobuz, the pioneering French high-res online music platform that is a touchstone for audiophiles worldwide, will be coming to Canada in May 2023. And to add to the excitement, from the day of its Canadian launch, the Qobuz offering will incorporate the entire rich catalogue of Québec streaming platform QUB Musique."

Frustrated by Qobuz changing albums to preview only - 30 sec mode. Why do they even allow these albums to exist in the library at all if they are constrained? So I can purchase them? I instead go out of my way to AVOID these titles. Same with the "for purchase only" tier. Such an annoying cash grab. Those recording and publishers can "suck it". Pull the content and make me buy it outside of Qobuz, don't list it in the exact same way you do music you can fully stream. Have some user empathy.

Hi.

Ive had qobuz before, and thought is whas good. But now i have spotify. Spotify has more of my taste of music and also i have a family plan,so each of my family member have their own account. But does qobuz really sound better than spotify? Mostly i use bluetooth ( mtw3 and b&w px8 ),but when im in the mood to just chill and focus on the music,i use denon ah 9200 and sennheiser ie 600,with chord mojo 2/poly or fiio btr5 with ifi xcan. But its not that often. Mostly its bluetooth with my phone or fiio btr 30 pro with my tv, watching netflix and stuff. Is qobiz worth it over spotify?
