I have posted this previously, but the VX has the most satisfying bass performance in my collection (Odin, A8000, Luna). I’ll be posting more thoughts about my recent acquisition, but I am thrilled with the overall tuning of the VX.

Hey, have you had a chance to properly compare against A8000 yet? I was drawn to VX recently but didn’t pull the trigger and went in another direction. However, I’d be really interested in how it differs from the final if I do decide to go that route soon! Also, more satisfying bass than A8000, how so? Cheers

Let me do some listening over the next few days and I’ll get back to you.

From looking a some graphs I feel these two share a similar sound signature so am really interested your thoughts. For me, the A8000 is great but I’m a tad sensitive to the peaks in the upper mids and lower treble and from the graphs it looks like there’s potential ‘dips’ in these areas on the VX which might suit my preference (well, no rise around 2khz and a dip around 5khz possibly, from reading crinacle’s graph). So, they definitely intrigue me. Also, the ability to wack up the bass with the bass switch looks like it could be fun when the genre calls for it! Rather than relying on EQ like I do from time to time on the A8000 which I find always throws the balance off.

off the top, the VX has better mid-bass than the A8000 to a very noticeable degree, I like this a lot. the mids on the VX are a bit more laid back. the upper-mids on the VX are smoother with less bite, but let me say I love the upper-mids on the A8000, my reference for this frequency range.

the VX has really great resolving power which contributes to a nice big soundspace; but the A8000’s resolving power is a touch better, highly transparent as a result.

After fully reading your reply, I think you can’t go wrong with the VX, I’m extremely happy with my purchase, and it makes for a good all-rounder rather than a specialist like the A8000.

I tried all the switches in different combinations, and I like the VX best with them all off. The bass boost is significant, so if you like bass-head levels, than yes, a great option to have. I found, though, I couldn’t listen to the bass on without flipping one or both of the two other switches.

I use mine with them all off as well. Surprisingly, all on is an interesting option. Some use it that way.

All on creates different dips and peaks, so, fun to try, but better to use subtle eq where one has greater control than fixed settings.

Thanks for your impressions. Interesting comments there as that was one key reason why I was thinking of buying the VX; to NOT have to try and work out where to subtly tweak my A8000 with EQ. From what I’m reading here (and elsewhere) I think I’d enjoy the standard tuning for the most part (all switches off), but the bass switch on for certain metal albums that require good bass heft and that sort of colouring. I don’t particularly like EQ and would rather plug and play (switch and play)

There was review saying who would do this and i actually quite liked it. I had bass and treble on but that 7kish peak hurts my ears so now its just bass on with 10-11k elevated in PEQ. Very nice.
