[/quote,
The wood cans beside the SoundMAGIC cans are SennGrado's, a PX100ii driver inside a grado style cup. Takes the driver to another level.

Yes, the px-100ii's with hd-414 pads are great cheap portable headphones. I'll always want to have a stock pair since they are so light weight and comfortable. Plus they sound great for the money, best budget headphone under $50 used. I prefer them to a lot of the entry level grados. Just a smoother, easier listening sound.

Has anyone removed the foam from the back of the drivers?

I already did since they're flaking out. I just took another pair of the foam pads for the earpiece, cut them to size and then stuffed them at the back. good as new

still amazed at the durability of this headphone. mine's almost 4 years and counting ,still working though I already had the plug reterminated, the foams and headband pads replaced (it's already falling out again) and it's still working.
might get another pair next week, a store here's selling the white px100-ii's for around $20.

Nice. Mine's at 3 years and 7 months, everything's still original.

I have cut my HD414 pads down to maken them smaller. I used a metal can to press down the foam and then used a craft knife to trim around the edges. Makes them smaller, less hot an less goofy. The sound didn't really change as far as I can tell. Also if you have an Android phone with ViPER4Android then you can use a profile from XDA which is very well equalized. That profile is for stock pads though and is very bass light with HD414 pads.

I use mine everyday, to and from the office, during commutes, outdoor etc so the plug didn't stand the wear and tear (my fault really). I just had it reterminated with a rean plug.

I wanna share free advice for all, who suffers from PX100's sound being muddy, when connected to cheap onboard soundcards. I have crappy realtek chip on my office working PC, and PX100 sounds boomy and too dark with it, but also I have a 3.5mm jack on my LG monitor with hdmi cable (nvidia hdmi audio). I plugged my phones through hdmi and was trully amazed how it sounds! Maybe because HDMI output is trully digital, same as optical output - sound is crystal clear, no muddy bass, WIDE soundstage, so much more details in sound, the difference in comparison with analogue is clearly audible. I like how they sound with hdmi even better, than plugged to Asus Xonar D1 or to Dr.Dac nano at my home, so I'm really confused now.

The PX 100 ii is supposed to be dark. It isn't a defect or anything. That IS its intended sound signature and that's why some of us really love it. If you'd like to explore ways to brighten it up, you should... but I, for one, can't get enough of its darkness.
