I'm amazed that there are people who don't like the PSP in terms of sound quality

The PSP slim has ENDED my search for a source
My K1000s, K701s, UE10s all work excellent together with the PSPslim
I LOVE the sound quality on the PSP slim

haha, your joking right? I mean, look at your Sig.

Do you even get sound out of the K1000 from the PSP slim? What sources did you manage to search through? I can't believe it. The slim is not different from the fat in sound quality from my tests.

I would be interested in seeing some RMAA tests, if anyone has them. I think a lot of people would be suprised.

Again, I dont think it is top of the line, but it's not all bad.

I agree that its not all bad. I put it higher then the 5th gen iPod in some areas. Maybe I should do a substantial review soon.

It would be an interesting read. It's hard for me to really comment too much because I haven't been as objective with it or had as much experience as I have with other players.

I really think the largest sound issues the PSP has, is bass - both deep and mid a like in terms of sheer volume. The bass is signifcantly less pronounced in referrence to many other players. In addition, its peak volume. I don't have the best of IEM's or headphones to definitely state, nor the necessary software, though I honestly don't think there's any noticeable amount of distortion between the avg. portable these days within 60-70db's. In comparison to some of the players I still own, the response (un eq'd) seemed noticeably flatter to me, perhaps leaning more towards the higher end of the spectrum if anything.

From the in-depth analysis of the Shure SE-530's, I'm wondering in how this player would match up w/ this particular IEM, considering. Since the 530's apparently are said to be a bit much w/ a deep seal, (bass wise) perhaps the PSP would help restore a more natural out-put in tone when fully isolated?

Just a thought

I just replaced my slim n lite psp+ Shure SE530 with Ipod Classic and I can say without a doubt that Ipod Classic even when using the headphone jack is better than PSP. Dont get me wrong, the PSP is quite good, but using it for over 4-5 months I've realised that it doesnt sound neutral at all. On default settings, it lacks bass, vocals are recessed and some songs are tad harsh. The best EQ setting I found to sort this issue was to use the "unique" setting in the EQ. That sort of alleviated the problem of bass but you lose a lot of detail in the sound. The Classic sounded a lot neutral and more fuller than the PSP. Btw, I used only 320kbps tracks on the PSP.

Obviously this is my opinion but someone else may have something different to say.

I've just begun using my PSP as a music player (iaudio just died), and the sound isn't that bad. What is annoying is the interface. If you keep the player in your pocket, the L and R triggers get hit A LOT, meaning the track will constantly reset/change. The PSP does have a hold button (which disables the controls), but that means in order to do anything you'd have to take the system out, turn off hold, make changes, then turn hold back on. I'm still looking for a decent homebrew audio player that doesn't the triggers mapped as such.

Apparently colleges disallow lack of clothing. I know, I don't get it either.

I actually tried to install irshell this morning, but it just wouldn't boot. The PSP would just turn black then reset, repeatedly. I'm on 3.71 M33-4. (Haven't gone to 3.80 cause of issues I've been hearing)
