While they are still very green a few quick initial impressions vs a few Grados I have laying around. Compared to vintage RS1s with flats they are a bit less colorful (and colored) and far less closed in. Compared to the GS1000s? The dip in the mids is GONE. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that out of the box the upper bass to midrange is the phones tonal center. A real sense of texture and weight on voices combined with the GS1000s open soundfield.

simply awesome. I look forward to a full review. Thanks for managing to take the time to post before giving them a real listen.

Also, thanks for taking the pads off and showing off the hybrid design. I was wondering exactly how they worked the wood in.

I don't know why these look so much better than the GS1000. It's just a metal version as far as looks.

Nice to hear the mids are back. Do you hear any sort of treble spike like the GS1000 have on certain songs.

pretty for sure does the wood cup encompass the whole driver or is the metal side metal and the wood side wood?

Metal version of the GS-1K translates into much better looking IMO, but I really like the GS1K looks a lot. I would say that the oooh factor for me is more of a product of the fact that they are supposed to be amazing and the best grados ever according to zanth.

I like the looks too! I second the question about the high frequency spike

Not so far. The voicing is day and night vs the GS1000s

Looks to me the driver is installed in a wood sleeve and that is then glued into the aluminum ring.
