It has been debated hotly for years about whether an AK4309 VM (not AVM) equipped PS1 with the RCA outs on the back are worth it for CD players.

I have had it going into my steteo and compared to some high end and vintage PCDPs (no full size PCDPs around as well as FLAC rips thru my DACs.

The only issue is that some of of the PCDPs only had headphone out and the USB DACs used similar chipsets to the AK4309 VM.

Do we have anyone here still using PS1 for their main CD player? I realize the AK43xx/44xx was unknown until the PS1 and even for a while after that, but it's a damn good chip.

Not sure if anything else about the PS1 makes it worth keeping running. Considering I have DACs with AK chips.

Yes!

Currently using the "A/V Multi-Out" port of my SCPH-1001 with a Sony cable to my amp to listen to CD's. Also have a PS2 remote & IR receiver on it.

Still sounds great.

Hehe, that's exactly how i'm rocking mine!
Glad to see there's still some love for the introductory model PS1's for audio purposes.
I am personally extremely happy with mine.
I started hoarding them at one point but now i'm down to just two SCPH 1001
