OK, What?

No, a hamster did not cause this.

This is not from abuse.

I'm guessing pressure inside the plug housing just bust it open. The cable is so thick and stiff, that I suppose from just normally twisting it into place broke the thin area of plastic. If you look closely, the plastic area under the "label" area is very thin.

It even burst the "Plus" label off.

I sent an email to PS Audio Customer Support.

How long is the warranty for PS Audio Power Cables anyways?

damn ed, that's no good at all!

According to the manual for the xstream PC:
Inside the U.S. and Canada
PS Audio’s warranty is 3 years parts and labor,
from the date of original purchase. This means
that we warranty the product itself regardless of
ownership, new or used.

hope they can help you out dude

that's pretty interesting Ed. hope you can get it fixed easily.

the plug housing seems bulky enough that I didn't expect parts of it to be that fragile. mine are still fine, but I guess I'll need to watch out for stuff like that.

btw, I found some info on the warranty registration page at PS Audio (though not the warranty info page) stating that all new PS Audio products come with a three year warranty. hope that helps.

Is that "busted out" or "burned out" caused by an electrical short? On the picture looks like the rubber melted? Did the "Plus" plastic inlay get broken too or did it just pop out? I have four of their cords and they get moved around a lot. Hopefully they will last.

Looks like they are getting me an RMA. So we'll see.

It's not burnt, it would definitely smell if there was a short.

I think the stress from torquing it around caused this. As you can see the plastic is very thin in that area.

Shipping the cable back to PS Audio. I am curious as to what happened as well.

They're not sure what happened, but that's it's most definitely a manufacturing defect, and they do not think I need to worry about anything like that in the future. My, guess, they changed the plastic housing in the next revision?

Well, I still have an identical one to the one I RMA'd (minus the burst open plug), so we'll see what the differences are (externally at least) between the old and new xStream cables.
