i feel that my D5000's are missing something, every time i use it with my ipod via line out/iBasso T4, the mid range gets thin, a mild change, certainly audible, but what it brings is an airy feel to a voice in a song, which i love greatly.

Now when i use it with my X-Fi Extrememusic card, the T4 makes adds a great deal of sibilance, making them unbearable, without the mentioned amp, everything sounds perfect, but i feel alot is missing, compared to the ipod/t4 combo.

What amp would suit my needs?

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

I think alot of people will recommend a Headdirect EF1, compass C2C and other solid state or hybrids. I greatly prefer them over all tube amps that I have and plan on selling most of them.

I am happy with the EF1, but I do like modding it with opamps and tube rolling for fun.

I dont have one, but it does have a low gain setting which you would want to use with Denon x000. In the $200-$300 price range I like hybrids better. buy both, sell the one you dont like...

I'd definitely consider a DAC as well as an amp. I didn't find myself disappointed at all using my D5000s from the Compass instead of my C2C. The C2C brings out more of the bass in the Denons, as well as detail, of course.

The Stello comes up from time to time in the sale forums. I had a Northstar + C2C rig for a while which did it for me with my D5000s. Something similar for around the $1000-mark or a bit more all up would be good going I reckon.
