Proof that the KSC35 and KSC75 are not the same drivers. (pictures)

Yup. I think "element" probably makes better marketing copy than "diaphragm" which conjures up clinical (medical) imagery.

Some people really like titanium diaphragms by the way.

IMO they have a little more mids, same bass. The 75s have the comfort edge. I would recomend the 75s over the 35s now that i have both.

Dang my ears hurt today, taking them both on and off

Every year i get a new electric shaver for christmas, its cheaper just to get a new one then to replace the blades. I keep em sometimes, sometimes i throw em away. I kept the little bags that came with the last 2 i got and they work perfect for these clipons.

I wish I had a digicam, because my ksc 35's have the same color drivers as the 75's!! I've had older versions that have the same clear drivers that are pictured above. Maybe they made a mistake during manufacturing!

But seriously, i think that the drivers are the same, just colored differently. It is possible to do so, is it not? If you examine the stiffness, shape, and flexibility of both drivers, they are identical (to human hands). Maybe the coloring of the drivers affects their weight and speed, thus affecting the sound?

The KSC-75 driver looks like the KSC-50 driver to me. The chrome finish is the titanium, and it's been determined that it does absolutely nothing. So, while the drivers are different in that respect, they sound the same. Trust me, it's pretty clear that there's a very very thin layer of titanium on those (heck, you can see through it), not nearly as thick as the kind found on speakers.

There has been speculation for some time that newer KSC-35s do not use the same drivers as older ones.

I seriously doubt that they are the same drivers, just colored differently. The AC impedance curves are different. The frequency response curves are dissimilar. A long time ago there was a post by a guy who used to work at Koss explaining that they are different. And they even look different. There just doesn't seem to be any evidence on the other side.

It has NOT been determined that it does absolutely nothing!!! I just don't understand why people continue to say this. They measure differently, both in terms of AC impedance and frequency response! Do you think polyamide coated dome tweeters sound the same as titanium coated dome tweeters? Of course not.

I'll never understand this argument.

hey wodgy, the older (i mean really old) ksc 35's came with a silver-terminated cable with a straight plug, slightly larger than the one used now(i have no proof, just my memory). maybe this could be what accounts for the different fr response between the ksc 35's and the other 60 ohm koss phones on headroom. They might not have updated the specs for the newer ksc 35's.???

How about in terms of detail, especially midrange detail, which has more?

I just got both pair in the mail yesturday, so these are new. They dont look refurbished, everything looks clean and new with no wear. The 75s were still in the shelf packaging. The 35s only came in a bag inside the pleather pouch.

I dont really know how to explain what im hearing really. They dont sound much different as far as the lows and highs, the mids seem to be better on the 35s but the clip is different. The 35s fit a little tighter.

If i had to choose i would choose the 75s, the sound isnt much different but the fit is better making them more comfortable, better value and good sound.

Where did you find informatin on which magnets are used? I didn't see much on the Koss site. My brand new 75s seem to be clearer than year old 55s. I wonder if it's the magnets or just wear on the older ones?
