Finding some cool bands from the East that allow eastern tinged sounds into their music.

From my understanding Riverside is going to continue as a three piece band with a traveling/touring guitarist. Piotr to me was the heart of the band's sound, a counter point to Mariusz' bass and vocals. It breaks my heart to say I think Riverside as we know them is done.

What the future holds who knows but Piotr's loss may be like the loss of Keith Moon. Sure The Who continued but they were never the same. Only time and a new album will tell. I am listening to 'Rapid Eye Movement' and enjoying the greatness of Riverside.

Of course they will never sound the same without Piotr but I'm sure that Mariusz is capable to write a very strong album even without Piotr.

He already has. I posted about this album last November when I bought copy and it is called 'Breaking Habits'. More rock than progressive but with his bass and vocals it is fantastic.

Here is a link from Bandcamp to buy the digital album for the very reasonable price of $7.99.

  New Persefone video

Oh God, we could do without auto-tune at least for this genre... but no, what's in the trend has to penetrate everything...
Will it ever end?

I think I can handle the auto-tune on this one. That's an awesome song. "Spiritual Migration" is going into my cart.

How can you tell they are using auto-tune?

I have been reading up to answer your question. Since auto tune has been around almost 20 years assume most albums today have some auto tune to some degree. Steven Wilson has admitted using for himself and on some of Opeth's songs he mastered. Compare almost all modern songs to Gabriel era Genesis. Notice how Peter's vocals are off pitch on occasion. Well today they would auto correct that to be pitch perfect.

Think of it as photoshop for vocals or electronic drum kits

I just threw up in my mouth a little.... Sorry, I can't stand fake musicians, or fake singers.

My advice is to listen to classic era Genesis like I am doing and enjoy the idiosyncratic voice of Peter Gabriel.

If you're suggesting that I listen to early Genesis or any other vocalist who may have sung slightly off key, or even flat, I have a few of those albums too. I know what you're saying, and I appreciate it; however, it's just not for me. If a vocalist occasionally goes off I can accept it, if it happens all the time, just sing in a range that's still acheivable. If none of that works just hang it up.

Thanks for sharing, it's different but still very good.

You know that Maciej Meller is now Riverside's new touring guitarist.  (He's also in the band Quidam)

Humm, maybe the next Riverside will sound like a mix of old Riverside with 'Breaking Habits' ?  I'm pretty sure that Maciej Meller will be the main guitarist on the next album.  The guy is doing a very good job with the Second Life Syndrome solos.

Interesting prog metal out of Russia. A bit generic, but nicely executed. And, they have instrumental versions of their albums, which I actually like better:
