I gotta throw the "Five Bridges" by the Nice as the definitive marriage of rock and classical. Cutting-edge in the late 60's.

My mother in law was a lab tech in the sixties and early seventies. She always tries to tell me why I am wrong about science. I asked he does she realize all her training is almost half a century old?? Lol, just funny no offense intended. You old guys are making me feel young and PROGRESSIVE!

No offense at all!!!

But you young 'uns could use a sense of history...:D

Really. When Keith Emerson tore apart the stage with "5 Bridges", there had seriously never been anything like it. Totally ground-breaking stuff.

I agree with the old guy (I am only 50), Keith Emerson was with Rick Wakeman, Vangelis and possibly Jon Lord the best keyboard players to walk the planet.

As a Finn, I can't help but posting this:

They recorded the Sibelius rendition already back in '68. The live video is just ridiculous! Imagine seeing that back then, or even now.

Rick Wakeman - Journey to the Center of the Earth surely?!??

Progtastically both brilliant and mad. Being listening to it for 40 years and have yet to tire of it:grin:

Oh man! I've never seen this.

Karelia Suite is in my top 10 all-time recordings. I'll never forget freaking out listening to Emerson tear apart his organ, and then they go back into the main theme. More metal than most recordings ever made. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Indeed, I almost went with the word "rad"! The amount of Hammond-abuse begs belief, along with how physical you can actually go with an organ!

Nice choice, @drwlf! I've got that album on my DAP. An album with a song about weird time signatures is about as prog as it gets.
