Android mode you use Android apps on the device to play music so you can add Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz or any Android app. It has a Roon ready app so you connect to Roon over network not via USB. If you only using its digital inputs your using a small bit of what it can do. It’s a music streaming device.

Pure music mode is just limited to using FiiOs music app for playback.

The new firmware FW1.0.3 for S15 is now available! Optimized the remote control function!

S15 FW1.0.3 firmware changes are as follows:
1. Added Bluetooth remote control features for screen off/standby, etc. (From now on, a short press of the Bluetooth remote's power button will automatically put the S15 into standby mode, while a long press of 2 seconds leads to choosing between screen off/standby/shutdown/restart.)
2. Optimized the loading speed of songs in folders/categorized lists.
3. Optimized the smoothness of the same screen control and independent control in remote control mode.
4. Optimized the loading speed of local music in remote control mode.
5. Optimized the external storage detection logic to no longer scan hard drives by default.
6. Optimized the click accuracy of the Bluetooth remote's air mouse feature.
7. Fixed an issue where the frequency may not display occasionally when switching songs in spectrum mode.
8. Miscellaneous performance improvements and bug fixes.

Note: The remote control-related optimizations require use with FiiO Control 3.34 version or above. Please update the FiiO Control APP first.

So here we are. And some questions...

1) is there a way how to force full (horizontal) layout on the external display/TV instead of this crappy vertical style?

2) is there a way how to force the unit to display album art on the external display/TV? We can have the "now playing" mode on the unit (front) display, so why not on the secondary display, too? (I really hoped this might be possible...)

3) is there a way to force the unit to upsample all audio? I mean a normal way, not the "all to DSD" function. (USB Audio Player does this job for me, but why not to have native support, including FiiO Music...?)

4) why (even when no music playing and no library scan active) is the (via USB-C) attached M.2 drive indicating intensive activity (when connected to S15)? Is this some kind of stupid bug? After some minutes the M.2 drive was running hot as hell. Then I rather disconnected it (as I do NOT want my 4TB drive to be melted). Even when I switched to another mode (like HDMI ARC), the M.2 frantic activity didn`t stop. In contrary to that, the old good R7 only loaded the played song and then the SSD rested calmly.

One point fixed by the latest FW 1.0.3 upgrade. After a short test I can confirm that this update fixed the problem with M.2 drive rapid overheating.
Some more points/wishes remaining.... :sunglasses:

At this stage I'm still not sure on this. Wont be using the DAC and probably Roon only with USB SSD.

But it would be better if this gets properly Roon Certified.

I like the display, but it still seems broken with limited VU options. I'm still leaning going a simpler more well trodden root and either A67 Gen 2 despite no I2S, as I would like to hook this to my DAC and PC.

Or to hell with it and go Mano Ultra Mkiii

hi, yes, we are communicating with Roon for the certification to our S15 now. Although without certification, you still can run Roon ready in S15.

Congratulations to S15 for winning Chinse 'Micro computer' magazine's 'Gear of The Year' award!

Pretty funny given how many issues the S15 still has like the remote still not working reliably or the fact that the search bar in settings menu covers the options your trying to navigate. These issues are still present even after the latest firmware update.
