I found the files downloaded them extracted them to a floppy, which I had to search for around my house a long with a floppy cable.

I got it all loaded up ran into another problem couldn't get my computer to boot into safe mode with command prompt found out it was my usb keyboard... had to use a ps2 adapter.

after, I get into the command prompt I start typing the stuff I found on the internet thinking it would work to no avail finally typed something in correctly only to come up with a list of what to pick end up picking #9 again what I thought was correct

went into more detail to figure out what was the correct one #7? tried that not working

list:
[1] Write To EEPROM for 1724HT + AK4586 with 24.576 MHz crystal
[2] Write To EEPROM for 1724HT + VT1616 with 24.576 MHz crystal
[3] Write To EEPROM for 1724HT + AK4586 with 49.152 MHz crystal
[4] Write To EEPROM for 1724HT + VT1616 with 49.152 MHz crystal
[5] Write To EEPROM for 1724HT + WM8716 with 49.152 MHz crystal
[6] Write To EEPROM for 1724HT + AK4586+AK4380 with 49.152 MHz crystal
[7] Write To EEPROM for 1724HT + VT1616+WM8728 with 24.576 MHz crystal
[8] Write To EEPROM for 1724HT + VT1616+WM8728 with 49.152 MHz crystal
[9] Read From EEPROM

You MUST select the one according to which kind of sound card you get.
The 1st option is suitable for 1724PC(Envy24HT+VT1616) with 24.576 MHz crystal.
The 2nd option is suitable for 1724CE(Envy24HT+AK4586) with 24.576 MHz crystal.
The 3rd option is suitable for 1724PC(Envy24HT+VT1616) with 49.152 MHz crystal.
The 4th option is suitable for 1724CE(Envy24HT+AK4586) with 49.152 MHz crystal.
The 5th option is suitable for Onkyo sound card (Envy24HT+WM8716) with 49.152 MHz crystal.
The 6th option is suitable for VPSD 8CH(Envy24HT+AK4586+AK4380) with 49.152 MHz crystal.
The 7th option is suitable for 1724PT 8CH(Envy24HT+VT1616+WM8728) with 24.576 MHz crystal.
The 8th option is suitable for 1724PT 8CH(Envy24HT+VT1616+WM8728) with 49.152 MHz crystal.
The 9th option is used to read the content of EEPROM.

in the end I am sick of this sh!t, and pissed...I need help

If someone could walk me through the steps and answer my questions or help me to get this done I'd greatly appreciate it

Unfortunately I'm not at home or I'd point you in the direction of the thread that explains this clearly (I have it bookmarked).

A couple of things.
For me the easiest way to do this was:
Make a boot cd with the flashing files.
Boot from the cd.
Run the exe.

I can't remember what the exe was called, but I don't recall having to select a number. The configuration file or ini file that was included with the flashing files was already pre configured to flash to Prodigy.

If you are in a hurry I would just keep searching for Prodigy Flash and read the threads to clear things up. Otherwise hopefully somebody can point you to the right thread.

I've been looking I can't find anything usefull
this is what I am doing to both my C: and A:
I put the files in a directory named 'Eeprw'
in that file I have the eeprom.ini, eeprw.exe, and eeprwa.exe

I boot the computer press f8 go into safemode with command prompt

type the directory
C:\Eeprw\eeprw ( run off the HD )
or
A:\Eeprw\eeprw ( run off floppy )

read me says to do it like 'Eeprw> eeprw' but I get an access deny when I am admin on both my admin account and my account with admin privileges

it runs gives me a this list:

I put 9 and press enter

get '[FAIL] PCI BIOS is not present !!!'
and 'EEPROM Registers [0xA0]'

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? ( sorry, needed to show anger )

edit: I also have used the default eeprom to no avail and tried to change the name/put in the code for the Prodigy 7.1

here is my eeprom file now:

My guess, I could be wrong, is that you need to be in real DOS mode. Either with a boot CD, or a boot floppy.

I'll give it a try

edit: made a boot floppy put the the Eeprw folder in it along with the other files

A:\Eeprw\eeprw

pressed 9

ran that no PCI bus error but I the prodigy 7.1 drivers still don't install

got it working

anyone who finds this later this is how to do it

make a boot floppy ( my computer>right click on A:>click format> check box ms-dos disk> press ok to begin format

after the format is done

move the files below on your A:

eeprwa.exe
eeprom.ini
eeprwe.exe

don't put them in a folder* so my commands will be the same for you

restart the computer check in bios floppy is your first boot device and boot to is enabled

should boot to the floppy and be in dos mode

leave you with something like

A:\

type eeprwa ( and press enter )

it will say eeprom is ready blah blah

type eeprw ( and press enter )

a list will come up selecting 1-9 ( previously posted up the list )

type 9 ( press enter )

eeprom should flash the firmware to the card and you're done

turn off your computer, remove the floppy, boot ur pc

when you get into windows you may receive a pop-up saying new hardware and such cancel it

go to the Prodigy 7.1 website ( google it )

download the latest drivers for the Prodigy 7.1

install and reboot

*when I say type I mean actually do it don't write type
example: type 9 means '9'

feel free to aim/pm me if you have any problems hopefully this helps people as I know I sure needed it lol

When I did it, all I did was run eeprwa. After that I could install the Prodigy drivers. I never ran eeprw.

May be true

even after all this I still have yet to get bit perfect

I tried to play a dts file and all I got was static any suggestions?

av-710 flashed firmware running prodigy 7.1 drivers --> optical out --- > dac1 --> balanced outs > HD580's

prodigy 7.1 drivers claim 44.1
Kernal Streaming in foobar2k
replaygain turned off in foobar2k
volume at max in windows and foobar2k ( dac1 controls volume )

what am I missing?

First, you will have to test if the bit connection to your DAC is indeed Bit Perfect. You can try this by connecting the source to your DAC and try adjusting the volume through your MBP. If the volume changes, then it's not BitPerfect; if pressing buttons on your computer cannot change the output volume, then it is.

Nothing is "perfect." Yes, the file codes and the mode of transportation might be exactly the same as the FLAC version, the devices/decoder used to play those file codes can vary differently. In other words, different DACs will give you different performance, just like how even different Optical Cables can alter the sound dramatically.

tried this adjust volume in windows does nothing, but is it true? I still can't play a dts file I downloaded from the web

I think you are falling into the same trap I did last time I setup a 710. I set one up on my media center and everything worked fine. I set another up on my main PC and kept getting static from DTS files...

The problem was I did not have the signal going into a device with a DTS decoder. Doh!
I would guess you have bitperfect at this point. Unless you feed it into a device with a DTS decoder you won't be ablt to hear anything but static.

does the benchmark DAC1 have a DTS decoder?

Most standalone DAC's will not have a DTS decoder, it's usually relegated to home theater amps/devices.
