I have sent Vincent Chan one e-mail in which I requested (very politely) that I would like to purchase a W100 and I said that I would be willing to pay extra for any hassle in doing this favor for me. He returned my e-mail saying that all he needed was an 'okay' and he would do it for me for $330. When I sent the e-mail with the 'okay' in it, AOL said the e-mail address currently 'does not exist' and it is unable to send it. I then proceeded to try and send him the e-mail from my AT&T Broadband account, and I received a message from AT&T saying that it was unable to send my e-mail as well. Now I am pretty sure that his e-mail address truly does no longer exist, considering I have more or less eliminated the possibility that it is It's odd how this happened all of a sudden, I mean, I did send one successful message and he sent one in reply, and now this. It's just very strange. This may very well not be Vincent Chan's fault whatsoever, however, it is still a bit frustrating.

I remember that one of the head-fiers here had dinner with Vincent Chan once, and evidently they know him quite well. If that person could please PM me or post here, I would greatly appreciate it, for I would like to ask them if they could talk to Mr. Chan for me. Or if anyone else knows another way to contact Vincent Chan (perhaps a business phone number to call) then I would be very much in debt to that person.

If anyone else has a suggestion for me, I would greatly appreciate it. And another way any of you could help me is by seeing if it works for YOU to e-mail him. His address is: vin@audio-technica.com.sg

Regards, Luke

It hasn't bounced back yet. In the past i've had emails bounce back a day later. I'll keep you posted via this thread.

E-mail accounts constantly go "off-line" for reasons that are related to server and ISP problems at EITHER end. AOL is notorious for problems like that. I manage listervs with subscribers from all over the world, and every day there are problems with addresses being unavailable or mail being undeliverable. So don't assume the worst here.

Mr. Chan has been very, very accommodating to many people, and the responses from AT Singapore have been swift and on target.

Thanks, JML. That must have been it (knock on wood) - I have sent an e-mail and nothing has come back saying that the address was 'nonexistent' or whatever.

I know, I said in my original post that I wasn't blaming Mr. Chan. He responded to my first e-mail with nothing but kindness. I was in a fit of rage, also, when I posted this thread, so that's why i was in the mood to blame everyone, probably (

Yes, don't be surprised with problems relating to email. I've handled problems with Lotus Notes and Exchange for a living so I know how screwed up things can get, especially with Exchange.

Hey, thanks for the replies everyone.

Anyway, things got straigthened out. I'd like to totally clear up the fact that Mr. Vincent Chan had nothing to do with the malfunction of his (or my) e-mail address, if I somehow implied that he was at fault (I definitely may have, considering the fit of rage I was in . . . my thoughts in the spur of the moment were something along the lines of " &%&$&#@$&@# internet service")

But, Mr. Chan seems like a very nice guy; he's been very helpful lately, and thank goodness that e-mail malfunction madness ceased, because now I know his account info and can finally wire him the money and hopefully get my headphones in three days. Yay!!

Oh, and Mr. Chan is very diligent about his e-mails. He has replied within just hours of the time that I sent my message!! Only I was unable to send to him for a while . . .

Driftwood, I will be sure to post my findings of the ATH-W100's sound, out of the box AND throughout their multple stages . . .

Oh, and these are 48 ohm cans, right? So they should probably be driven well right out of my D-EJ925 portable rig . . . has anybody had any experience with these when they're unamped?

Thanks

They're very efficient and sound great with everything to which I've connected them, but they're at their absolute best with an amp (the Corda HA-1 and Earmax Pro are the apparent unquestioned good matches). They take 70-100 hours to break-in, and keep getting better as they're used, so don't worry too much about the highs and lows when they're new (see the extensive postings about the cans, from Tomcat's review to all the others -- but the phenomenal midrange transparency is immediately obvious). They are terminated with a standard plug, and you will need an adapter to use them with minijacks -- my suggestion is to order the Grado adapter immediately (it is a 4" cable and jack/plug combination; Headroom and http://www.goodcans.com/ are two options for purchase). The Dayton adapter from PartsExpress is another much cheaper choice; it's metal, without cable.
