I use eRightSoft's SUPER video converter. At first the site makes it look like you're downloading spyware (but it's not), but once it's downloaded, it is simply one of the best converters I've used. I've tried Videora, Handbrake, Xilisoft and a few more and nothing besides SUPER can convert almost any video type. But for AVI, there's a plethora of choices out there just like the ones people have named.
