Just as an update, yes the asio plugin does work with wavs. I still can't figure out why it doesn't work with anything else though.

As far as my reading goes, it's something to do with how Vista/WMP handles codecs; theoretically externalizing the decoding process. This would make sense if it can play only raw material (WAV/CDA), or material that goes through another internal decoding first. (IE: Movies)

Yeah, I think I am just going to stick with the foobar/wasapi set-up for now. I don't feel like spending the time converting or re-ripping all of my CDs. Thanks for the help though. If anything this thread might help someone else who encounters the same problem.
