I usually use WASAPI on foobar when I listen to my music, but I have recently discovered an ASIO plugin for WMP. I have tried it out and can't seem to get it to work with music files. It works fine when I watch video, but not at all when I play a song. Does anyone use it, or know of a possible fix?

Got a name or a link?  Or the symptoms, instead of just 'not working'?

This is where I got the plugin from. http://sourceforge.net/projects/asiowmpplg/

The symptom is just as I have stated. It doesn't work for music. When I click on a song all I get is silence. The status bar moves letting me know the song is playing, but I get no sound. If I load up a video, it plays the sound with no problems, and works like ASIO normally does. I can't control the sound through windows, only through the Essence STX interface.

Hmmm... Have you tested playback with both FLAC and mp3?

I've tried with every imaginable codec. Still nothing. I get wasapi and asio in foobar to work perfectly. But nothing in WMP other than videos.

"The plugin works on Windows 7 but for many file types you need to do some registry hacks"

From their help forums.

Try putting in an audio CD and see if that works.

Ok, now we are getting somewhere. That actually worked.

ETA: response is really slow. When I hit play, it starts playing, but it takes about 5 seconds for the song to come on. Same with if I fast forward.

What version of Windows and the ASIO plugin do you have?

The delay might be unavoidable, unless you can somehow change the ASIO buffer either in the plugin or in the STX settings.  It's probably set somewhere around 4000ms, and you should set it as low as you can.  200ms is nearly invisible.

I have Vista 64 bit. And I'll try changing the buffer. I am using the plugin I showed you. It just says cmasioPCIX.  The buffer was at 300 ms. I can also pick ASIO4all v2 which gives me a slew of different options. I set the buffer to 2 MS, that seemed to help with the response time.

Try uninstalling your copy, and installing this copy.  It's the ver 4.4 x64 plugin.

I can't get it to install. I opened the rar file, but when I click install it tells me I can't. It says copy operation failed. I tried just putting the dll files in the plugin folder, and they don't show up.

Okay, try this instead.

Download or open your copy of 4.4, and install it.

Go to Program Files --> asiowmpplg

Replace the files in that folder, with the files in the Mediafire .rar

Nope, still nothing. Works just like the other one did. Looks like I will have to just keep using Foobar. I mean its not that big of a deal, I just like the WMP interface better. Thanks for all of your help though. I will continue to try other things, to see if I can get it to work. But right now I need to think about sleeping.

Last thing I can really suggest is to try a .wav file.  Then, if you have the space, you can just use wavs.

I'll do that tomorrow when I get home from work. Space isn't really a big deal. I have HDD's out the wazzoo here. I'll let you know if it worked after I try it.
