Hi @ThanatosVI Sadly they won't. The KT170 tubes are a little fatter than the KT150s. They would "work" but they won't fit.

That said, for power output to the headphone, i think the it is capped. (ie, when using the PL only for headphones that 300 makes the most sense. But if not capped, The KT170 seems like a must upgrade for the EVO 300.)So it shouldn't make a diff for that. Of course there might be a sonic difference (but how much do power tubes impact sound? very little .. and cool looking factor

Power tubes still make a noteworthy difference in sound, that's also why I asked.
I.e. a KT120 would sound significantly brighter than the KT150s or most KT88s I know.

I might try the KT170 in my Octave in a few months, if thr manufacturer can confirm that they are safe to use

Got the Radiotechnique (I never know how much burn in a NOS needs.. cause.. it is already old )
If i really used it for 100 hours before judging i've already burned it in to my brain.

But, on a 2 hours of being connected... I kinda dig my empy. (Which as you might recall @ThanatosVI I don't super love them... )
The Radiotechnique add a bit of airiness that i thought the meze was missing. Man these things are comfy. (Still not worth 3k tho.)

EDIT: nope.. bounced off the empy when putting on other content.

I'm enjoying some Norah Jones right now.
On the Utopia... i'm not sure i hear a change. Oddly i'm finding very few things changes the Utopia for something reason (when doing these minor tubes changes i've been making)

Anyone play around with the Bias Switch?

Is the bias adjustable? Can you lower it or raise it a little to change what you hear? Lower bias will warm up or sweeten the sound, to a certain point.

I don't need the extra power from the k150s.. i'm using KT150 for the sound and it seems to work fine with low or high bais. (I only using monitor speakers now so i'm not stressing the power output either.)
I don't *think* i hear a diff.. but then i'm in the middle of a tube rolling dance with my PL right now So everything is different.
(i'm also thinking of trying those GE Military Stock 12AU7 / 6189W at upscale audio too... they are pretty "cheap")

If you want to use it mainly for headphones or want to tube roll I'd go with the 300.

Having to roll 8x power tubes can become expensive

I'm keeping my EVO 400 - but need another unit. I ordered Focal Sopra 2 speakers. I was thinking of putting my EVO 400 with those and get a EVO 300 for my desktop/nearfield/headphone setup. The 300 is cheaper.. and IF i need more power knowing how well the KT170s work in them will help me pick. (The 400 can't fit 2 rolls of KT170s)
Of course i likely don't even need the KT150s for the desktop - but i do like what they do. And yes, 4 vs 8 is cheaper.

I'm still waiting on the rockna too... (It is the waiting that keeps me upgrading. I wish it would just show up!)

I was looking at the woo stuff (as i do like me some 6ns7 sound) - but why would i spend that much for a woo when i could get a PL.. it doesn't make sense. (well.. other than the 6ns7 and xlr)

The listed Wavedream is single ended though, I thought you wanted the balanced one.

The Woo Audio amps have a different sound signature and completely different tube Setups. The Wa5 LE is also the most affordable 300B tube amp that comes to mind, even though Woo Audio isn't exactly great for price/performance in most cases.
They are more of great options that come at a price imo...

Personally I always fight with myself to not add a Wa33 to my lineup.
At some point it will happen... but for now I need to save.
I'd also like to ask if they'd modify a 3ES for use with regular headphones, since that one has 6SN7 instead of 6C45. However I am afraid they might say yes...

I moved my PL mainly to my new main speakers (Sopra's seem to love tubes.. or so the interwebz tell me) and ordered a Woo WA22 for a headphone amp and pre at my desktop. (i'm looking forward moving back to all XLR again.)

Did you try the KT150 or jumping right to the 170 from the KT88s?

I've been running KT150s for the last nine months or so. Mainly my PL power my speakers but every once in a while sI use them for headphones. I recently got a Wells Audio Dragon Level II which I love. I use the premaluna if both me and my wife are listening at the same time to headphones together.
