I used to listen to a portable discman.

Mp3 player wise I've had a Zen, Samsung T10, Cowon D2, Samsung P3, Cowon i9, Sony S639.

Currently what's in my signature - I listen to the Samsung and the Clip+ the most.

An impossible request.

I started with a free player that came with an SD card purchase I was making for a camera I owned.  2004ish.
I got suckered into buying a player off the Home Shopping Network, sometime in late 2005.
At some point Apple came out with the iPod Touch, and I bought one.  Whenever that was.  2007ish.
Then despite how great it was I realized there were several flaws, and set out to find a better device.

40 players, and 3 or 4 years later, and I haven't found a better all-around device yet.  Some get damned close, then chicken out.   I'm thinking Zune HD and Zii Egg. Several are better at individual things.  My HTC Hero with Android 2.1 on it is the closest I've come, and the only thing I'll actually carry with me on my belt besides a Touch.  When I want to really enjoy listening to music, I'll pick up my Cowon J3 or the Sflo-2. The J3's UI is far better though.

For more details, feel free to peruse my blog. It started October 2007, and is a fairly good progress report.

The early MP3 players had almost ridiculous prices! The 20GB Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 I bought in 2003 cost me over 3600 Swedish crowns. This would be about £300 in today's exchange rate. I do not remember the pound-crown exchange rate in 2003 though...

Hrmm Don't remember when I got them, but here's the order:
Sony D-EJ715 (CD Player)
Sharp MD-MT77 (MiniDisk)
Sony D-NE509 (MP3 CD player)
Creative Muvo TX 1gig

Currently:
Sansa Fuze 8gig

And I still have them all in working and very decent condition, besides the Sharp's remote.

hi , are those archos players any good ? i read so many bad things about them constantly crashing etc

Meh, They're alright. I bought it for movies/video so SQ wasn't my main concern. I would say that there are better for the price in terms of SQ but they don't really... suck; just not that good.

Yea... I would think about some of the new tablets coming out in the near future. You should definitely check out endgadget for their reviews impressions on them.

But yea the 9 looks good; there are lots of others out there too.
