Resize not crop. Although, there is an awful lot of sky and a centered horizon. Beautiful picture though.

Photoshop crop does resize. You "crop" the whole picture to a certain pixel size (3456x2304 -> 1440x960).

Technically, your assertion is not correct. Cropping may eliminate part of the image, but if the image started out at 300 dpi, it is still a 300 dpi image after cropping. Resizing actually reduces (or enlarges) the image, often sacrificing detail by lowering the dpi value. So, in a sense, you could say that cropping in resizing, except that the pixel density is unchanged when you crop.

I'd crop the bottom off of the sunset picture and make it a panoramic. I've got one just like it hanging on my wall and it drives me crazy having half of the picture black. My wife loves it though, and won't let me take it down and reframe it. My pic has even less in the bottom than yours.

Indeed, leaving just a little bit (right near the horizon) of black also serves as visual anchoring for the silhouetted trees, and also adds a bit of drama!

Clever cropping can do magic with images.

Here is a couple I took today, a couple friends and I went out, and my one friend ended up getting stuck up to his axle in sand, but that's a different story. Here's a couple pics of when the day was good.
