I find photography is a little like the headphone hobby - gear matters. A good photographer can use a cell phone to make a great composition, but not necessarily a great photograph, as the equipment needs the resolving power to reallly get the details.
That being said, what kind of tips can you give me with my shot here? Nikon D3200-Nikkor 18-55mm (kit lense) edited in GIMP
I think this is too soft but I find most of my in door shots with the D3200 are extremely noisy so i have to go wild cleaning it up.

Use a tripod or similar stand with your camera, which allows you to use low ISO and slow shutter speed. Works with low light situations shooting stationary objects.

Are you suffering from noise or focus? Looks like a focus issue to me. A tripod will help you use a higher f-stop (as will shooting a higher iso, which causes more noise), but pixel peeping your photo, you may have a different issue. Have you ever calibrated your autofocus? It’s something a lot of people overlook, and is not as difficult as you might think.

Higher f-stop can of course be used as well when using a stand with the camera. I'd recommend using manual focus indoors with stationary objects, so you can nail the focus every time, and don't suffer from focus hunting or missed shots in low light.

It doesn't look over-processed to me. Captures the mood perfectly. IMHO (not critiquing): Bottom right is a bit too dark, maybe you can lift the shadows a wee-bit.
so lots of my photos were wiped from my HDDs, no idea what happened
spent hours trying to recoup everything from imgur/google photo backup but no more raw files. ugh
