Yeah the preface was an interesting read and read through it all. The Zone system i did initially start to read through properly but i ended up skimming through it and getting on to the Filters part. I'll delve back into the Zone System at some point but i did pick up a few tips etc from just skimming it.

great colors on the third one! it's just sad to have your shade in it.

I had a play with one of your pics.

I cropped the shadow, dropped the saturation, leaving just the red and blue. I boosted the red and the blue, sharpened it up, maybe too much, and was left with this. Pretty cool i think.

EDIT: Then photobucket destroyed it it seems

This is just the cropped version with some sharpening, and boosting of colours, and saturation, and a darkening.

I took all those with my Nikon Coolpix P5000 (10 Mpx) and they are all natural. I'm not the PS kind of guy.

In the Venice series:

Little Girl feeding some pigeons.

Some cloister at the Cemetery of Venice.

Stravinsky's Tomb in the same cemtery (hey, this is Head-Fi! I had to).

Some dark alley at night.

Coming soon, the Geneva series.

I like the composition of the first, second, and last, but unfortunately they're a little soft for my tastes. (There's not much you can do about this obviously). Still, you're making my pretty envious: we recently had to cancel a trip to Italy because of some unexpected final exams.

This was my first thoughts when I saw them. Perhaps there is a in camera setting to increase the sharpness for your camera Nicolas2305?

Beach Colors

I like these colors.
It makes you wonder why no one is in the water!

I know that the third is nothing special but I just felt that I had to post it. As for the pictures, I never had any hints about photography in general. I go with my instinct and setting my camera at half automatic and controlling only the exposition time since I don't want to use the flash.

I know I don't have much control over my camera but it's all very amateur shots to bring someting back in Montreal. And since I'm traveling alone I can't say: "hey look at this!" so I take some pictures instead!

you can have a look at my picasa web album where you can find all my pictures while I'm in Europe, I post them here for the people I left in Montreal. The only thing for you guys is that the comments are in french.

Now that's a mansion if I've ever seen one.

You must've taken this in Europe, no?

It's Edinburgh Castle

BTW, do my pictures look very blue to you? I am really struggling with colour profiles at the moment. My Adobe Lightroom, Windows Explorer and FastStone Image Viewer are giving me different colours. It's a pain in the arse to do post-processing when the colours aren't calibrated properly... I have three screens. The pictures look amazingly vibrant on one of them and very bland on the other two

Thanks for the nice comment Milkpowder!

Your first (top) and third picture are a little on the 'cool' side (blue), but to the point where it is up to personal preference. The second and forth picture have a warmer color to them. Nothing wrong with any of them in terms of color, it is just personal preference and what mood you wanted to achieve.

The top picture has an interesting flower plant. I don't think I've seen that locally.
