Had issues on black screen lately, that I could not trigger it back when moving my mouse or keyboard. Traced it to my power management settings...
A one off is not indicative of the whole.

M1 Mac Mini, 16GB RAM, 2TB SSD, Sonoma 14 are sufficient to play music (mostly FLAC), the CPU history does not even show any fluctuations. Even when using EQ or even Sonarworks SoundID Reference.

As audio player I use:
Foobar2000 v2.6 / v2.7 beta
Fidelia (from Apple's App Store)
Audirvana Studio
Media Center 32
Decibel (Ver. 2.0 beta 33)
DeaDBeeF

Ripping:
dBpoweramp Music Converter (Ripping, Converting)
XLD (Ripping)

Editing, Test:
Mp3tag (Meta Text Editing)
PerfectTUNES (AccurateRip)

Other software:
VLC
Elmedia Player
Elmedia Video Player
mpv
ocenaudio
Audacity
IINA
Ampado
HandBrake
Burn

intel 12400
GTX 1070
32GB Ram
(i only remember it was a TUF motherboard, known for good voltage regulators)
1x 2TB HDD / 500GB NVME (probably will upgrade to a larger NVME in the future and get rid of the HDD)
cheapo pcie to usb card since it sounds better than onboard ports
i also put around 20-30 ferrite clamps on pretty much all cables

running Linux Mint + Liqourix Kernel + PipeWire + EasyEffects

Honestly dont see a reason to upgrade, with linux it runs butter smooth (Liqourix kernel definitely helps with responsiveness/start up time) and i dont play alot of games..

And my new-ish HomeServer build:
Ryzen 3350G Pro
again, dont remember the motherboard is was a bit more expensive to support ECC/many pcie devices
32GB ECC RAM
2x2TB NAS HDD's, which get upgraded soon!
2x250GB SSD

costed around 300-400 euros used, some parts i had lying around

Running TrueNas Scale and some TrueNas Apps + a Debian VM running docker+portainer for remaining services

the complete local server has a domain pointing towards the local ip ( not accessible over the internet ) but i can connect trough "TwinGate" from anywhere (i just need to install the TwinGate application on the client device and connect, then the "local ips" are accesible over internet

some services i run:
TrueNas SMB Server
Plex
Navidrome (Nice Music WebPlayer to stream Music over your network trough the browser, just like streaming services do but selfhosted)
BlackCandy, alternative to Navidrome, tho my first listening sessions showed that i prefer Navidrome sonically, navidrome beats Deezer/Qobuz, specially if you look into different CD Masters
Nextcloud
HomeAssistant
Arr-Stack (look it up! but only download legal stuff :) )
Homepage
as "frontends" and many other services for "background tasks"

Honestly quite challenging to getting into but once its setup its a bless! :)

Next thing i wanna watch into is placing a blueray drive inside the server for automatic ripping since i also started collecting CD/DVD/BlueRays, imo the fact that you own something that you can resell later on is a much greater deal than having 4-5 streaming services you pay 600-700 euros a year, specially because you can get quite good deals if you buy private

Haven't seen anything about there being problems with 12th gen, it seems it's purely 13th and 14th gen based on my research. That black screen could've been a driver issue most likely related to the gpu that got sorted out with a driver update, etc.

So far, Intel hasn't admitted that 12th-gen are having issues. Also, it hasn't been reported by people testing the issues.

Had issues on black screen lately, that I could not trigger it back when moving my mouse or keyboard. Traced it to my power management settings...
If you mean a black screen, and the fans to go 100% and it requires pressing the Reset button?
If so, there are so many darned issues that could be the cause.
It could be working fine for 1 hour, 10 hours, and then suddenly the screen goes black, and fans fire up. This might even be quite common when you initially turn the computer on, but after 1-3 reboots it will behave again. Also, it's common if the screensaver goes up, then you move the mouse to go back to desktop, and it farts out.
This kind of thing could be the CPU, but it's easier to check other "Big Ticket Items" first:
STEP ONE: Make sure the CPU temperatures, and the GPU temperatures are good based on idle, and load settings for your specific hardware (easy to find on Google).

- RAM may be faulty. Try disabling the DOCP/XMP/EXPO (whichever your board is using) and run at stock speed, not overclocked. If it does a random boot, then put things back to how it was before, and try...
- Roll back to previous GPU driver, to when it wasn't happening. If it still breaks, go ahead and update back to newest drivers, and...
- Roll back the motherboard BIOS, if it happened after an update.

Those are usually the most likely causes (but there are a dozen other potential reasons).

It could be your power supply (PSU) power output, or the PCI-E 6-, or 8-pin cable(s) (or the 12VHPWR) going to the GPU.
- Turn off power, and unplug the computer case. Remove the cable(s) connected to the GPU, and push them back in until they are firmly in place.
Do the same at the ends plugged into the PSU (PCI-E slots) itself.

If you have custom cables for the GPU, try switching it out with the stock power cable that comes with your PSU.

Finally, you could try plugging into a different output for your GPU power cables from the PSU, if you have them. Maybe the voltage output for the current PCI-E rails active are unstable (if that's the case, then a new PSU should be top priority lol).

Unless the "stock" GPU cable is one that doesn't support the added power requirements of NVidia's new GPUs. Don't forget many of us are still using old(er) power supplies that don't have that specialized cable.

I mentioned this:
It could be your power supply (PSU) power output, or the PCI-E 6-, or 8-pin cable(s) (or the 12VHPWR) going to the GPU.

Low power GPUs will use a 6-pin PCI-E connector. Then, the "bigger" cards use one, or two 8-pin PCI-E.
12VHPWR is the RTX 4000-series connector. The famous one that causes melting/fire when not plugged in all the way.

If you buy any of the newer GPUs that use 12VHPWR, it will have an attachment with three, or four 8-pin connections. Like this:

If you have a custom cable (such as from CableMod), that was made for your PSU to plug directly into the GPU with 12VHPWR, it may be the culprit.

That's why my PC no longer looks like this:

Sorry, I missed that, but that's exactly what I was referring to :relaxed:

Also, keenly aware of the two 8-pin connectors to a GPU as that's what mine takes - AMD 7900XT.

If you buy any of the newer GPUs that use 12VHPWR, it will have an attachment with three, or four 8-pin connections. Like this:
Yeah, I know about that. And also, why I need (want) a new power supply when I do my next build. The new power supply will meet today's standards. I bought my power supply in 2019, but things have progressed since then.

This is with my old Radeon (AMD) VII GPU.... two 8-pin connectors.

Be careful what you wish for. No unicorn vomit, so it's just a black box. Plus bonus cable spaghetti.
