Ultravox New Europeans lyrics

In a quiet street washed by the rain, the room within the home.
A lonely man sits cheek to cheek, with unique designs in chrome.
The mellow years have long gone by, but now he sits alone.
He has a brand new radio, but never turns it on.
Chorus:
New Europeans.
Young Europeans.
New Europeans.
A photograph of lovers lost, lies pressed in magazines.
Her eyes belong to a thousand girls, she's the wife who's never seen.
Their educated son has left, in search of borrowed dreams.
His television's in his bed, he's frozen to the screen.
(Chorus)
On a crowded beach washed by the sun, he puts his headphones on.
His modern world revolves around the synthesizer's song.
Full of future thoughts and thrills, his senses slip away.
He's a European legacy, a culture for today.
(Chorus)
Young Europeans.

not exactly "headphones" but in Ballad of a Thin Man Dylan sings
"You walk into the room like a came and then you frown,
You put your eyes in your pocket and your nose to the ground
There ought to be a law against you comin' around
You should be made to wear EAR PHONES"

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the first pop song to mention headphones/earphones.

Björk - Headphones

genius to fall
asleep to your tape
last night
sounds go through the muscles
these abstract
wordless movements
they start off cells
that haven't been
touched
before

these cells are virgins

my headphones
they saved my life
your tape
it lulled me to sleep

nothing will be the same

i'm fast asleep

i like this resonance
it elevates me
i don't recognize myself
this is very interesting

my headphones
they saved my life
your tape
it lulled me to sleep

i'm fast asleep now

i'm fast asleep

my headphones
they saved my life
your tape
it lulled me to sleep

Before we go any further
I'd like to show you all a game I made up.
This game is called 'Sounds of the Studio'.
And it can be played with any record
Including this one. You may be surprised!
Now if you have a pair of headphones
You better get 'em out and get 'em cranked up
'Cause they're really gonna help you

"Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads.
"...ain't got not speakers, ain't got no headphones, ain't got no records to play."

Regina Spektor's "Eet", off of the album Far.

"You're using your headphones, to drown out your mind"

Sounds like a lot of us I guess.

Atmosphere - like today

Put my headphones on
for this world I ignore
trek down the street
toward the record store.

Christian band "Jars Of Clay". I don't actually own the cd that has this song, but I do have 'Jars of Clay' and 'Much Afraid':

I don't have to hear it, if I don't want to
I can drown this out, pull the curtains down on you
it's a heavy world, it's too much for me to care
If I close my eyes, it's not there

With my headphones on, with my headphones on
With my headphones on, with my headphones on

We watch television...but the sound is something else
Just a song played against the drama,
so the hurt is never felt
I take in the war-fires, and I'm
chilled by the current events
it's so hopeless, but there's a pop song in my

Headphones on, in my headphones on
With my headphones on, with my headphones on

At the Tube Stop, you sit down across from me
(I can see you looking back at me)
I think I know you
By the sad eyes that I see
I want to tell you (It's a heavy world)
Everything will be okay
You wouldn't hear it (I don't want to have to hear it)
So we go our separate ways...

With our headphones on, with our headphones on
With our headphones on, with our headphones on
I don't wanna be the one who tries to figure it out
I don't need another reason I should care about you
You don't want to know my story
You don't want to own my pain
Living in a heavy, heavy world
And there's a pop song in my head
I don't want to have to hear it
