Post A Photograph Of Your Turntable

Isn't it amazing value?
Sure seems that way so far! After a handful of hours the bass has come forward. I was noticing some distortion in the highs during challenging passages but have tweaked some things, including trying a lighter headshell (this cart is pretty heavy on its own!) and dialing in the loading with a SUT, and it seems a bit improved if not completely absent. Maybe break in will help?

When the distortion isn't happening it's very smooth and three dimensional. No graininess at all, and I don't notice any issues with IGD (unlike the hana el).

So you put a Grace arm on a Lenco idler. Isn't that just proving my point? Besides trying to make a nice turntable? 😉
I'm really not lazy, but I still have:
1 Dual 1219 to fix (difficult, totally jammed)
1 Dual 1209 that works fine, old DIN cable
1 Thorens TD150 that I want to merge with an Aristona (Philips) 212 Motor electronics and a good arm (Rega 301 or Opera T981)
2 Garrard something 24 that are rumbling nightmares. Totally crap arms.
1 Dual 1019 without a base
2 Lenco 78 that work but are a bit clunky. The white one is a good lender for friends wanting to try vinyl.
1 Lenco 52 mk1 that's pictured, with an old Ortofon mm
1 Thorens TD 115 ready for sale (finally) OM5 (ugh)
1 Philips 212 that is museum quality
1 Philips FP146 tangential plastic 80-ies that is surprisingly good with a simple AT3600
1 Akai AP-M7 tangential (Technics oem SL 5) that works fine with a new Tonar T4p but is not as good as I hoped. My 'dream turntable' when I started out. Glad I didn't have enough money then.
1 Joboton 712 mono idler in white bakelite with a shattered arm.
1 Clearaudio Performance up for sale
At the moment I'm not doing anything with any of them.

I just enjoy my new Chinese FFYX turntable. Enjoy the quality with 2 22" arms with high end MC cartridges and experiment on the third arm with several headshells to try all sorts of cartridges. See what they sound like and how they behave.

I guess I'm just opinionated a don't know what I'm talking about... 🤔

PS: this is a picture thread, so post your photos here please.

Cool turntable! Which one in your list is it?

That's a very old Joboton idler. It only came with a mono ceramic cartridge. That's not so much of a problem, only the the white bakelite arm is broken (shattered). A difficult repair.

What a difference a headshell makes! These cheap wooden ones are pretty light when you remove the weight from them, and now the high frequency distortion I was getting from this cart is a non-issue the vast majority of the time. Some harder material headshells seem to have more resonance in the high frequencies.

Very good. Wood is less resonant and it dampens better. And it looks pretty nice too.

What I also did before installing it that makes it look even better is sand the cheap lacker off (always sand with the grain, best put the sandpaper on a flat surface) and start with slightly worn 140 grain or higher and end with a 400 or even 1000 polish. That will give it a much nicer even shine. I treated it with a coat of real wax. I could also use Rubio Monocoat or guiding wax. That would look pretty unique.

And while I had it disassembled I also checked the azimuth and glued it more solidly in place. I mounted it on my arm, put a flat block on my platter with the same height as the cartridge and pressed it down while the new glue was still soft.

Don't you hate it when you break something? I just came out of bed and I turned up the radiator in the livingroom. The knob is behind my TT. In a loose t-shirt and receding I heard 'twang'...😳 [expletive!]

1000073342.jpg

I broke of the antiskating pin. 😱🤬

Fortunately I found both the pin and the weight. But how am I going to get the stub out? How do I fix this? Aaargh.
Fortunately I'm good at thinking of solutions and fixing things. So I got my Dremel out and started working on one of the stick on rubber feet I have. And made this flexible solution. It has to go under a certain angle. I broke the loop in the wire too but that's what knots are for.

The moral of the story; don't wear loose clothing around your turntable and don't let the cleaning lady anywhere near! And second: anything can be fixed. But making it look like new is a different story.

Loose clothing has claimed many cartridges over the decades.

Is that Eizz tonearm from the same Eizz that makes volume pots?
Yes. They make high end turntables, arms and phono stages too. And this is the cheapest arm option.

This has been my setup for a few months now but only just updating the pics.
On the left is an Oracle Delphi mk1 on the right is a Sony TTS-8000, both feed a Gold Note PH10. One day the shelves will be filled...
Nice vintage Oracle. With a 'The Wand' tonearm? That's even nicer. Denon 301 cartridge?

I feel your pain. After years of having my turntable uncovered, this winter I finally sprang for a custom clear plexiglass lid for my Bogen/Lenco, made by a company who builds display cases for department stores. Peace of mind at last, although it cost nearly $200.00.
In hindsight, I should have specced 1/8” or 3/16” plexi, instead of 1/4”… although it’s bulletproof, the 1/4” edges are a bit more noticeable than I expected them to be 😁
PS, I ordered it online from shopPOPdisplays

I use two separate turntable systems.

Rega P3-2000 with a Little Dot1+ feeding the Grado PS500E and a modified Lenco GL75 with a Bottle head Crack feeding the Beyer DT880 600 ohm.

I see both Lenco or Bogen have been equipped with a proper tonearm. Although I think something like the Rega 30x is still very modest for these refurbished idlers.
