Hello all. I've decided that I want to buy the ATH-M50S, but I have a concern. On Amazon.com, the straight cabled version is $20 dollars cheaper than the coiled cable version. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B004ZG9TMA/ref=dp_olp_new_map?ie=UTF8&condition=new http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000ULAP4U/ref=dp_olp_new_map?ie=UTF8&condition=new I would basically like to know why the straight cable version is so much cheaper. It seems odd to me that they would charge $111 for headphones that are often thought of as around $150. My question is basically this; Is there a reason that the straight cable version is cheaper and is there a chance that it's a scam?

I personally don't think that this could be a scam because: 
 
a) The seller is Amazon, and I have seen examples of headphones costing a good amount less that the supposed retail price.
 
and
 
b) The coiled version is considered not only more convenient, but also more portable by many.
 
I would recommend waiting for some other people to verify, but I don't think this is a scam.

Audio Technica ATH-M50(s) headphones will sell new between $120-$160, depending on the time of year.
Headphones might be a scram if they are shipped out of Asia.

Thanks for the input. One wouldn't think that Amazon would sell a scam, but it doesn't hurt to check.

I see. I'll keep that in mind. It doesn't say were it ships from, but I don't think that it's Asia.

Not a scam. The straight coiled M50 typically cost less that the coiled version. Most likely because the coiled version is more popular. The price of HPs particularly on Amazon changes frequently. $111 for the M50 is a very good price. Tomorrow it might be $130 or back to $150 on Amazon. You can never tell. I think Amazon is very safe if it sold by Amazon or one of its partners. Buy and enjoy.

Make sure to purchase them directly from Amazon.com, and NOT a third party seller.
 
The pricing for the two are very different because I assume more customers want a shorter cord. The straight cable is about 10 feet. The coiled cable is about 6 feet. I was very happy with the straight cord because unlike the coiled cable, it does not put weight on whichever earcup it is attached to. Coiled cables tend to be heavier.
 
The straight cable was also more convenient for me because I used it mainly as a home headphone. It was easy to keep them plugged in while I was walking around doing my business.
 
You could also purchase the modified ATH-M50 with detachable cord, which was one thing that I missed out on because this sprung up after I purchased them:

Use the $20 coupon. The mod costs $30.
