Hello yall!

If I were to have a set up, in which let's say I use an iFi DAC and iems on the road, but don't have a digital source. I do not want to use my phone cuz:

1. Not as much storage
2. Might have noisy digital signal
3. Drains my battery which I need for work

What would be something I can buy to use solely as a portable digital source/transport?

Would be best if it can output DSD to be processed natively by the DAC.

Thanks before hand for any input!

TempoTec V1 has dual mSD slots and no analogue stage. Output USB and coax. HibyOS with HibyLink

From what I can tell, people here on HF are quitre happy with their Hiby DAPs used as transports for separate DAC/amp combos.

Like using the R5/R6s as a transport? They do still have a DAC stage tho. I would suppose that is a good thing if I wanted to only bring a small device that day to power IEMs instead of the full blown iFi for cans.

Xduoo X10t ii. Transport only. Pro - small, fast ui, every digital output you can think of, bluetooth. Con - no touchscreen, button only menu. Hook it up to my ifi micro black label either through optical while charging or usb if not. Use this to drive Aeon closed in the office.

It depends on your budget, of course. I have always felt that the Astell & Kern are some of the finest on the market. I currently own a SE200 which I would not give up for the world!

Most Astell & Kern do incorporate a DAC, but they are top notch. The SE200 is vastly better than what you are currently using and it is in one compact self contained unity.

+1 on the X-10T II. It’s very close to my modded Shinrico with supercap PSU.

I use it to feed a Chord Mojo (via glass Toslink).

Nice find on the Shinrico, I was thinking of using a raspberry pie if I were to mimic a PC, guess there is already a standalone solution like that. But I need something portable, if I want big and bulky would just use PC.

Isn't Toslink basically optical?

Agreed, AK does sell good packages. SE200 is a fun device with 2 DACs. I actually own a DX220 max, so I did feel quite insulted when you said vastly better. But I guess it is fair if you were comparing to the some of the iFi products.

Their digital output is fine, but for something that is only used purely digitally, AK is excessive with its DACs, and I am not sure about its output format support since I wouldn't be getting anything new from them for this purpose.

I am actually so up for the button only interface, I feel like that should be all you need for a portable device. I would be using a separate analog EQ if I really needed one, and that would sit on my desk setup if I decide to build one like that.

Have a few questions you might know the answer to:
1. How well does it support native DSD output?
2. How does the coax1/2 differ? Does it mean you can output 2 things at once? Or use a dongle to goes form USB to RCA like coaxial plug?

And I am quite up for it, next thing is to prove which portable DAC can beat my DX220 max.

Yup, they have, but I was thinking about something affordable like R2 used as a media storage only, so with its internal DAC bypassed.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this, but HiBy R2 can send digital data out, right?

Thank you for reminding me this device exists! I am evolving my daily routine, and now, such a device is slowly starting to make sense for me. Hopefully, they keep developing this, as the current, I believe, max TF card support of only 256GB is kind of a bummer especially.

In any event, I have some homework to do to determine what kind of portable stacked system based on this device is capable of. Big $$ on DAPs is something I'd prefer to avoid, especially if quality options like this exist.
