Hoping not to get roasted here. So if this was discussed to death before, please provide a link and I will be very grateful.

I am used to CD players, using a Ray Samuels Hornet through line output, and AKG 701 and Grado 325i.

1) Is there a big difference in quality of sound between a good portable Cd player and say an iPod, both played through the line output?

2) Is there an iPod or Mp3 player or any other portable source, that is considered to be of higher quality?

Thanks

Where as several older pcdp's can easily outperform any dap. There are many threads discussing pcdp's so try search ...

my d321 discman is still better than all the dap I own.

If you trying to drive big headphone, try PCM-D50.
I read tons of review that this PCM has best output power so far.
