I have to say that I've had my Porta for a few weeks now so it's good a burned-in. Damn, this thing is *quiet*. Even pushing 27 Volts through it cranked to the max with efficient cans.

Hats of to Jan! This amp is incredible considering the size and price! The only real complaint is the knob is hard to turn on/off. However adjusting volume is fairly easy.

The only other complaint about mine is the pot. It doesn't control the volume level between channels evenly though the first part of the turn. But, this is to be expected with pots, even quality Noble pots like those Dr. Meier uses. however, a stepped attenuator is gonna make it too big and expensive. Not to mention it's overkill.

This amp would make a *great* match with a good portable [(MD)(MP3)(CD)(DVD)] player and Ety's for a flight. I haul it around *everywhere* with me and my Portapros.

Paypal confirmation takes about a week or less if you have an online checkbook.

hi, need some opinions here. which of the following would be the better source for the senn HD580 and porta corda connecting to a sony CMT-SD1(~US$550)... i dont really want to fork out cash to test source 2 or 3 if its not going to help..

1. Phones
Seems to have a fairly decent output.. no details though..

2. RCA Output
for the CD

3. Optical Output
for the CD to MD

use the RCA outs. if you use the phones out, you put the signal through a crap amp and then again through a good mp. that way you still get the crap of the first amp but louder. you can't connect it to the digital out, the amp can only use a analog signal (it has no DAC of it's own)

CMT-SD1 is a minisystem, right?
So if there is a RCA output FROM the CD, i would use thisone in order to bypass the amp of the sony system.
A RCA-->miniplug isn't very expensive, and you will certainly have a better quality than from the headphone jack.
But first, check that it isn't a RCA INPUT for another CD or a MD deck...so it would be useless to plug your amp in it.
Anyway, the optical out is not usable.

Here are some pictures of the JMT amp. Quite good built and fairly small, though not as small as the porta corda. Maybe you could ask JMT to build you an Altoids amp.

I also got the Power Supply from them too. It's more than 10 times the size of the porta corda!

I love my Porta Corda, makes the sound so much cleaner vs the headphones out of my sony 925.

Gratz on your buy
