If this is true, then the video quality can only be so good and will be forever limited to the resolution of the original tape (barring some miraculous new video techniques).

Dang. That was a dumb move.

I not sure if the OP meant both Pop AND Rock or either/or, but if it includes just rock, you can't forget "Seconds Out" by Genesis. It is simply fantastic.

If it's Pop AND Rock, I'd have to go with Frampton; it spread like a virus, and then died like a virus. It was still a lot of fun when it was happening. Frampton's studio stuff really sucked, but that was one motivating live album frenzy in the 70's.

I voted for "Live at Leeds," but I would add to the list of nominees:

Lou Reed-"Rock and Roll Animal"
Dylan-"Before the Flood"
Talking Heads-"The Name of This Band is Talking Heads" (Much better than Stop Making Sense in my opinion)
Elvis Costello-"Live At the El Mocambo"
Grateful Dead--"Europe '72"
and yes, "Fillmore East."

Thanks a lot guys! Great job!

I've read that Iggy was Unbeatable Live!
1. Live at Hippodrome Paris
2. Live on the King Biscuit Flower Hour
3. TV Eye (1978, RCA)

Any comments about damn crazy Iggy?

Of course, I knew about Iron Maiden, Judast Priest and Kiss, ...,
(Bob Dylan, James Brown, ... took their spots),
but not about Genesis (live) and Peter Gabriel (live), and some others.

Speaking about 'Pulse', it was due in December, 2005. Of course, I've got the VCR tape and the 2CD set.

Agree with previous on Genesis-Seconds Out and Gabriel Plays Live. A couple of others not mentioned:

INXS-Live Baby Live (get the DVD)
Hendrix-Live at the '67 Monterrey Pop Festival (part of a boxed set, I think)

I'm sorry but the correct answer is Maiden Japan. Thanks for playing.

More metal than rock/pop, but still Maiden Japan and Unleashed In The East are my two favorite (non-jazz) live recordings.
