I played 2500 hours over 4 years on City of Heroes, a MMORPG. Then I burned out on PC games for awhile. I got an X Box 360 last year about this time, but only now have begun playing Black Ops on it.
Some people say that spending the money we spend on headphones and audio equipment is a waste of time and money... I say if you enjoy something, then why not waste time on it? (excluding hurting people)
No one needs to be constantly productive. People are usually happier when being counterproductive. I game, watch movies, play sports, listen to music, etc. Productivity is all in one's mind IMO. Relax, have fun, shoot some zombies from time to time.
Certainly arguable. If so then why watch movies, TV, listen to music, go to parties or gather around before new years and blow whistles and scream like fanatics? If productivity is the issue against gaming then other activities I aforementioned aren't so much that apart.
I think its too hard to judge whether its a waste of time or not for everyone, only for yourself.
Sure any hardcore WoW addict is going nowhere fast in life, they clearly could do more with their time but who are we to judge and say they should be working/studying/socialising whatever more.
In Japan, DS and PSP mind-challenge games are hugely popular in the middle-aged to elderly demographic to supposedly help them maintain their mental function. Is that a waste of time?
There are pro gamers who earn 6 figure plus salaries. Are they wasting their time?
I don't think its a waste of time but only type of game i think might be would mmorpg ones. Simply because after a while you almost play out of habit or obligation. That's why i've enjoyed getting back to videogames as seems it always something fairly new to keep things fresh
Not neccessarily, but it sure can be. In fact most of the time that I play I afterwards think of it as a waste. Especially when it was out of boredom or out of habit. Consciously deciding that you're going to do some gaming for a certain amont of time is how I would like to do it. Plus stopping when I feel that it's been enough. Difficult difficult..
Well, if gaming is a waste of time, everything else also is.. I mean, if you can have fun and relax while playing a game, it definitely isn't a waste of time..
Certainly arguable. If so then why watch movies, TV, listen to music, go to parties or gather around before new years and blow whistles and scream like fanatics? If productivity is the issue against gaming then other activities I aforementioned aren't so much that apart.
When you look back on your time spent does it seem like a nice time remembered? If you have good memories then it was time well spent. Metal Gear Solid played on PS1 was a great memory in my life. The real wast of time in gaming was in the mid 90s when you had to load the game and had a chance that there were compatibility issues which after all your toil resulted in an unusable game.
