Plug headphones into iFi audio GO link for supercharged sound!

I don’t have a Windows computer and I am disappointed I still can’t upgrade the Go Link firmware with my Mac, and I will be stuck with whatever my Go Link came with. I had no such problem with my iFi Nano iDSD or Micro iDSD Black Label and they could be upgraded with a Mac.
I completely understand this concern and I would recommend that you file a ticket with our support folks using the link below...

They should be able to help you out with any concerns you have.

Cheers!!

Thanks, but I’m very happy with my Go Link as it is and so it is only a ‘nice to have’ to be able to update the firmware and not important enough to need to raise a ticket about it. I assume that the firmware update is perhaps a feature of the software development kit that the iFi engineers use and not something they themselves develop. Otherwise it isn’t clear to me why some iFi products can be updated with a Mac and not others.

Agreed, I will try and take a look at differences in the firmware for you and if anything jumps out I can let you know.

I am going to raise this as I am also mainly a MAC user but I learned years ago it's good to have a cheap (mine was 100 US dollars) around for things like this, and also for the FAT 32 formatting capability.

Cheers!

Hahah ...the best was to have the old macs that have dual boot and can have the best of two worlds ...but this is now gone for good...:)

Right!

I still have a working 2009 iMac that had that although I never used it much TBH.

A few years ago I picked up one of those 100-dollar Mini PCs from Amazon, still works and does the trick for music out on my porch/bar, so I am glad I have it but it sees more music work than Windows work, :L3000:

Cheers!!

The latest firmware is 1.80 here is a txt version of what differences there were in this update This was march 2023 so if you got it after that date you more than likely have this version...

USB=V1.69>>>V1.80
1). Optimize MQA playback indicator display abnormal // Only Android version of Tidal play MQA, audio normal processing but indicator color abnormal (part of the test song: Satisfied scribz riley) //
2) add support for USB1.0 // support for PS4/5 and other USB1.0 devices //
(3) optimize the pause playback indicator display problem // pause playback still display playback sample light color, changed to refresh the current USB identification sample color //
4) solve the product connected to PC / device, resulting in PC / device can not boot // Lenovo X13 notebook connected to the product can not normally enter the system, unplug the product, can normally enter the system // the relevant person in charge know.
5). Optimize MQA pause playback and then switch DSD playback occasional noise // MQA pause playback occasional indicator remains unchanged, switch DSD will appear noise //
6). Optimize random playback with occasional noise // After unplugging USB several times, random playback with occasional noise //

Hope this helps,

Cheers!!

Not everyone - I have a Mac mini 2012, which I upgraded with a fast NVMe disk and a 2nd SSD disk. This thing rocks with dual boot, optical audio output, FireWire to connect my DV camera etc... good old MaCs😉

I bought also to my wife the last intel macbook pro 13 with the four fans... what i call the last of the mochicans...

She is not using it much so i will get it at the end and give to her one of the new ones...

If i had the space I would also try to buy the last intel mac mini which on top you can put as much ram you need, have dual boot or/and parallels...

As you said good old macs...

Yes... Though I'm not a Mac guy per si, I bought that used one for a reasonable price (with 16GB ram) mainly because it would be much easier with quality to digitise my miniDV cassettes... Then I saw all the possibilities it offered.

I rolled my new iFi Go Link back from the stock 1.80 to 1.66 and also noticed slight improvements in sound. It sounds a tad cleaner and more resolving, like a slight veil was removed. It is not psychological, I listened to a few familiar tracks right before the rollback and then the same tracks afterwards. I will stick to v1.66 for now. As I mostly listen to mp3, flac and wav through Android and 7hz Timeless planar IEM, not so much to MQA, the quality of the sound is of the highest priority for me. Anyone else noticed any changes with 1.66 as well?

Currently looking for a S Balanced 3.5mm MMCX quality phone cable. Does anyone know if this works with the iFi Link?

Another possibility would be getting the 3.5mm 4-contact male to 2.5mm female adapter and the 2.5mm balanced cable. But I would prefer a single cable solution to eliminate the extra pieces.

Just got the Go Link and set it up, updated the drivers and firmware following the youtube guide here:

However no matter what i try the color does not change not matter what I play. It just stays green. What could be causing this? I tried playing a .dsd file and it still remained green :frowning2:

What media player are you using? It normally needs to access the GoLink in exclusive mode. For DSD, depending on the player, additional config must be done.
